On Toshiba Laptop need to go back to Win 7 from 10

    Hi,

My friend installed the 10 he was offered on his Win 7 Toshiba laptop and is having problems so wants to go back.

Any advise please although I know the info is very lean maybe this is a common thing.

    Thanks

    oz

This is his email to me..

I made the mistake of downloading Windows 10 because MicroSoft offered it free and I'm one for a bargain. But I didn't bargain on being totally unimpressed with it. Can I uninstall it and reinstall Windows 7? Can you tell me how to do it? Or can I bring the laptop to your place sometime convenient for you?

No amount of clicking will let me open files and folders unfortunately. So I can't get to look at the list of things on the left of the screen, anything like Explorer or Word or Control Panel. I'm surprised the email is still working OK. Reluctant to fiddle around because if it freezes up again like it did for two days last week I'm afraid it might stay frozen until I can get to see you. I took it to Laslo in Crows Nest on Friday, he took out the battery and put it back in. It started up OK then.

I am doing any actions slowly so as not to upset the applecart. It seems to hate fast clicking or quick changes. Email is OK at the moment as well as general access to the net, but it freezes at least once or twice while I'm using it - usually when I'm in the middle of something so I have to to turn it off and restart. And even then it freezes sometimes while opening! So I turn off the power and start again.

That sounds weird. From reading his mail, I cannot say, what might cause this behaviour...

In Windows 10, go to the Settings app > Update and Security > Restore > Back to Windows 7.
That is the way, with which you should be able to get back the old Windows 7 system.

Please note that - given the problems Windows 10 is having on this machine currently - basically no one will be able to tell you, if this function will work properly. You should really make a backup of all that is important on that machine before you try going back!

Hi on the Toshiba I have before I installed windows 10 I had the same freeze problem and found it was the f5 button for the touchpad so went out and brought a cheap mouse that plugs into the usb drive then pressed CTRL+ALT+DEL which made it restart kept pressing them and it did take me back to the menu for factory reset.

    Many thanks for the reply.

He came over today with his laptop and I was able to apply the Restore to 7 and it went perfectly.

He is a happy chappy again now!
