Getting "File System Error (-1073741819)" When installing software

Just upgraded from windows 7 pro to windows 10 Pro.

The upgrade appears to have gone well except for the error which I will describe below.

    The symptoms:
When attempting to install any software which requires administrator privileges, I am getting one of two errors.

More specifically, I was attempting to install "Speccy" to get more information about my hardware. I double clicked the installer and immediately received the following error: http://puu.sh/jzL9O/42086373b9.png

I attempted a reboot, and then after that, I did a disk cleanup and basically checked everything including the previous versions of windows. Then I rebooted again and have still received the same error.

Now when attempting to install some other software I have either received the error I show above, OR I will sometimes get the following error: http://puu.sh/jzLgj/56ab10655c.png

I have done a bunch of googling and have found zero information about those errors or how to fix them, besides "Hurrr Durr reinstall windows"

I REALLY don't want to re-install windows, and would like to fix this problem without wiping out my current installation.

    Thanks for the help!

Sounds bizarre, but a fix for similar symptoms has been to disable system sounds, then change UAC to lowest setting, and finally to re-enable sounds.

Have a look at this thread. There was another with more detail, but I can't find it right now.

Edit: And welcome to the forums

That was the fix!! So weird!

Just to clarify for anyone else, The fix was to change the windows sounds from whatever I had selected, to the windows default sounds.

You can do this by using the start menu to search for "Sound" then clicking the control panel sound option.

Then go to the "Sounds" tab and make your sound scheme either "No Sounds" or "Windows Default"

Hi, After updating to Windows 10 from Win 7 Ultimate I can no longer do anything that requires admin privileges. It appears as though something is wrong with UAC on my profile.
