    1. Yes, i've lost both of the windows, 8.1 and 10

    2. There's prob on w8.1 and i'm upgrading to w10 because wanted to clean the mess and i also personally prefer w10 better. But the problem is still persist

    3. Yes, i would prefer w10 over w8.1, but it seems that right now, i cant get any and any windows installed would be good for now as my main point is to reset the laptop, clear the problem and get a window install so that later on in the end i can upgrade to w10

    4. I'm upgrading w10 via microsoft register/free upgrade, so i understand that getting w10 even after factory reboot of w8 is that i can still reinstall the w10 after the reset.
Hey Mih ... You might want tell us what exactly you were trying to fix before you upgraded .. maybe some hardware fail ...??

The screen would pop on empty (by empty i mean, it looks like the window explorer is not responding and reboot everything but only halfway and left me with only empty screen/desktop w/o any apps or button or cursor or anything) after a while using it and i cant do anything during that. i'm sure it's not hardware fail.

Maybe it's too late for running SFC scan to fix system files ..
Hope some one else will give you help on getting your windows back ..

Since you can't access anything or do a system restore or reset/refresh your computer I would advise getting a new hardrive because. most likely the files are corrupted or damaged so i would get a new hardrive.

Welcome to Ten Forums. This is an old thread by the way. Also unless the hard drive is physically damaged, you don't need to replace it. If its just file corruption, all you need to do is delete the partitions, then repartition and reformat it. That can be done while installing Windows with advanced install options.

I went through the same struggle discussed in the thread but this thread is from august 2015 and today its May 2016.
I purchased hp laptop with windows 7 a couple years back and put off the window ten upgrade for quite a while and finally went forward with it. I really didn't have any problems with it other than being slower than my windows 7 was but I was ok with it. I recently had my email breached and changed passwords only through computer and still had the issues so I imagine something got into the computer so I backed up all photos and documents and used windows 10 restore feature.
Started it last night at 8pm, around midnight it was at 17% and still froze at 17% this morning.
I was trying to find solutions online but ended up just booting from partition hard drive that contains the operation system. (Pressing F11 right when the computer is booting FYI)
Has windows came up with any solutions for this issue yet? I am going to stay with my windows 7 until they get that figured out.
Instructions booting and restoring from hard drive for HP
    Start computer
Press F11 at black screen and it will say loading windows
Decide if you want to backup, or completely restore to factory :)
