W8.1 had to be installed/activated first as the W10 ISO wouldn't accept the product key. Installed 8.1, passed on the offer to upgrade to do the in place upgrade which would be faster but that just ended with failed with no errors given. Found the W10 upgrade offer in the update details list. After the lengthy download much of which I wasn't watching but caught the final or only reboot with no errors, etc. but I'm still on W8.1 but then had about 120-130 updates to install which didn't change anything.

Since W8.1 is now activated, I should be able to do a clean install using that product key.

I'm not going to bother dual booting anymore, Windows 10 is working well enough!
