Rich, a few reasons not to... McAfee at least can only be disabled but comes back on during the next boot. If you want to stop it totally during the install and re-boot you must UNINSTALL it. L's PC and my hard drive install worked fine and we have different A/V suites and left them on and running.

We were already reported about this issue and now try to find what causes the problem. This is Windows 10 compatibility issue which most likely can’t be worked around. We’ll inform you as soon as we get any updated info.

Also when I posted in the Paragon forum another person responded that he had the same problem as I did and his PC is NOT a Dell.
I'll wait for Paragon and/or MS to figure this out.
On my Dell 8700 latest version of the system; I did a clean install of Win 7 Pro on a new SSD last month.........kept the system pretty clean with only the programs I use daily and kept the OS updated.....
Downloaded Win 10 Pro and did the upgrade and it went perfectly......Loaded up Stardock's Start 10 for my start menu and then off to Dell Support site to upgrade drivers to Dell's new drivers for Win 10.......
This was the easiest upgrade I have experienced and so far I am pleased with this new OS......
Those who are having problems on their 8700 systems might be due to the way Dell formats their Hard Drives with 6 partitions......I have found that this can cause several problems using cloning software to migrate to an SSD.........
You can do a clean install of the OS that came on the 8700 and then try the upgrade to Win 10 and most likely that will solve the problems
I discovered the problem with the XPS8700 and SSD boot on July 30. I'm sorry to hear about all the similar problems and no solutions. Fortunately I had purchased the computer from Costco and was within the 90 day return policy so a full refund. I'm getting a new XPS8700 with Win 10 installed and will use the SSD more carefully, that is, install programs on the SSD if they allow not using C: This also means the regular recovery partitions are still there in case of emergency.
If you are interested in new Dell computers Costco is a really good deal. If they have what you want you will save a few $. Of course the 90 day return policy. And they add a 2nd year of tech support by their technicians. No, I don't have any connection to Costco except for being a member for 30 years.

After at least 50 attempts to upgrade my 8700 from 8.1 to 10, I finally found the issue.
I had tried all of the "other" fixes but when I saw an old 8.0 upgrade issue that was fixed by rebuilding the BOOT and BCD, I decided to try it.
Steps:
Make W10 installation USB/DVD from media.
Boot from USB/DVD
Go into the advanced section and click on the Startup Repair.
It still told me it couldn't fix all of the issues.
Rebooted from C:
Ran the installation again and success.
I suspect that by BCD needed to be rebuilt but it wouldn't rebuild from an 8.1 recovery CD.
There are some free software packages that fix this like EasyBCD.
