Gtx 940m versus Radeon 6970m
Does anyone do any gaming on the 940m? Obviously not expecting miracles from the card but we sold out 5 year old Alienware laptop which had a 6970m running Windows 7. At the time it was a beast but being 17" and not exactly mobile we wanted to get a smaller 15" screen and something pre loaded with Windows 10. As a replacement and due to budget we have found a nice laptop that has 940m. It would be nice if the gpu was better than the 6970m. It may be low end but as the 6970 m is 5 years old we hope for something that matches it. Just wondered how the two gpus might compare.
the Alienware had a sandy bridge 2820QM 2.3 ghz. The new laptop we are pondering has a i3-6100H 2.7 ghz cpu. In the old days it was easier to tell what the better cpu was just via its clock speed but it's very different now with all the names. Is the cpu comparable in terms of performance. I know the Alienware was old tech but it's performance was good and I tended to lean towards older pre 2012 games titles anyway.
Its not the end of the world if the new laptop is a total fail with games as we have a gaming desktop but it would be nice to know. The main reason we want the new laptop is for mobility - the iOS tablets as good as they are cannot beat the Windows experience for Internet browser. Plus the new laptop will have seagate SSHD 1 tb hard drive. It's not pure SSD but booting should be fast. The Alienware only had a mechanical HD and boot time was horrible (a bad decision by me at the time not to get SSD plus secondary HD but back then SSD prices were pretty steep).
