HP Laptop Screen Resolution Issues

While you can revert back to 7 as long as you haven't run the DiskCleanup tool or removed the Windows.old folder quite yet the problem typically seen with upgrades from 7 to 10 is going three versions newer and running into headaches which result in forcing a clean install to follow! Too bad you are just now arriving here since there is a guide for skipping the initial upgrade to simply see a working copy of 10 go without headaches!

Recently another HP laptop upgraded to 10 from 7 had also come out "Buggy y y y y y" as all heck while already knowing a clean install would follow to clean up the mess! Other then that 10 runs all too much a lot like 7 but is the newer form of the WinMin kernel in use as well as seeing the newer form of a Start menu brought back.

The fact that the display there came out sideways doesn't clearly indicate that the upgrade is actually what went sideways on you not seeing everything go on as it should! I will still point you at a couple of guides seen here at TenF that will be for Clean Install Windows 10 Directly without having to Upgrade First and the Windows 10 - Clean Install regular guide showing the how things are done you will still want to lookover anyways.

I wouldn't worry any about this being strictly a 10 related problems since displays going sideways has been around since XP at least as well as seen with Vista and 7! Speaking of HP in particular I think one of the support threads could well work for you as far as the three key CTRL-ATL- Up arrow not Down or Left or Right arrow key pressed together to see if that will snap it back for you. Did you have to press the Ctrl-Alt-Del combo for any reason lately?You may have accidently hit the left arrow key when going to hit the Delete key and bingo! My screen is sideways - HelpLine

The references there wouldn't generally be recommended for only the wallpaper seeing a 90 degree change but for the entire display while an upgrade that comes out buggy doesn't always want to play by the same rule book! The main idea was to try out even the weirdest option to see if a fast fix could be found before the need to see a full fresh copy of 10 go on.

Unfortunately a buggy upgrade is all too common not only for 10 but from one version to the next regardless of 2000 to XP or XP to Vista or XP or Vista to 7, 8, 8,1 or now 10. You will notice the first links were to show you the option to avoid the need for upgrade install entirely as well as the guide that will take you through the steps to see a working clean install go on.

From the looks of things as far the max resolution despite the correct display being on still being limited to 1024x768 on what should be the 1366x768 indicating the horizontal as well as widescreen aspect ratios are caught in a spin cycle. Something didn't go on like it should have as far as the Windows side of the display goes it would seem. If that was the G60-120US model that also saw Vista as an option when the model was first out which present another problem as far as how new a version you can go and still get the actual correct drivers as far as 10 goes on it. The problem in looking up the exact model you have there is knowing what comes after the G60-? 100xx? 101xx? 102XX 103XX etc. on and on with something like 127 different models(laptops and hybrids both) with the G60 in the model number. If you know what the rest of the model number is and find it in the list the next step is to see if that model sees support upto 8.1 since 64bit 8.1 drivers for the most part will go right on 10 and work without issues! But if that model only saw Vista, 7 support the anomalties are the result of not seeing support for 10 with the model simply being too old and HP simply moved on to a newer model series. And too often not only with HP but just about every brand laptop you can run into that.

Have you been to HP's website and downloaded the latest video driver? According to the spec sheet your laptop should be running an NVidia 8200M.

The G60-120US was simply an example since the full model number wasn't posted. Typically with the generic display drivers already included with 10 it should be seeing the 1366x768 without a problem unless that model he has there has a display other then the 15.6" size such as a 16" or 17" depending on the actual model while with 127 models in just that model series alone you want the exact match.

If you look closer at the OS selector being Microsoft Windows and the version you see Vista or 7 as I suspected for the G60-120US. You may not find any model that will see 8 or 8.1 drivers available due to how old that model series is to begin with and be forced back to 7! Nothing for even 8.1 won't be good for 10! It's highly doubtful any 64bit drivers besides the WiFi adapter will even work on 10 and why things ended up buggy. I'm afraid that's a bit more then just a little bleak! Typical OEM for you! What the HP page there shows there was 7 without any further option for Vista at this point or 10 but nothing for 8, 8.1 indicating there never was any.
