...one thing i am not seeing is how does the audio from PC then get back to the Receiver in all this
HDMI audio disabled : all audio out from PC is via optical out port, to optical in port on AVR. Recall I am dealing with legacy equipment.

Yes i recall mention of that ,just wondering how you were doing it, i do still have older receivers with optical and coaxial. Heard Coaxial is slightly better then optical, but if do not have a choice for now optical better then composite (RCA jacks).

    PROBLEM FOUND AND SOLVED.

For the benefit of others who may be using PC's with HDMI switches., thought I would bring closure to the saga.

    1) I heard back from ATI/AMD - to their credit they did understand my question and did reply quickly. They suggested the standard troubleshooting tips I already tried (ie other devices, other cables), but did not offer any specific settings to try, so no real success there.

    2) I heard back from IOGEAR, also quickly. They asked that I call in, which I did and spoke to a tech. Similar troubleshooting tips, but to their credit, they also suggested I try it with an optional 5V/1A power supply - which I thought was an excellent tip - but it didn't help.

TURNS OUT ONE OF THE HDMI SWITCH PORTS IS BAD! .. Yup I tried all sorts of combinations and cables and connections, but I must have been using the same combination of ports!. So ports 1,2 and 3 are good but port 4 is dead.

If a switch replacement works, I am good to go, and can defer a new AVR purchase.

If the switch replacement also has a faulty ports, or if it becomes faulty over time, then its a QA issue, and I'm done with switches, and a new AVR will be in the works.

    End of saga.

Good to hear both companies responded fast. Guess i did not look at that model good enough assumed myself it had an AC adapter as most like that one do and sometimes need power to work better or ones with power seem to.

Have to see what happens when get a replacement, post back let us know, good luck !

Got the replacement today (in store exchange) and all ports work fine.

The video card / Win 10 multiple display is interesting - not acting as I expected but totally workable. I usually extend displays when I have a multiple monitor setup, but here, the reason I have two monitors is different. I have a small 17" LCD monitor (VGA port) which I use for setup/config stuff, and the 720p projector/102" screen . Here I thought I would duplicate displays. Ended up doing neither. Bottom line is that I have use of both monitors ( great) in an unexpected way:

    One time setup:
    - PC video card is set for one display only (the 720p) and setting optimized for 720p
    - HDMI port goes to switch (where I can switch between Blu-ray, PC, Cable)
    - VGA port goes to LCD monitor
    - I keep the switch powered to removed any signal strength issues
    Use:
    - when projector is on, I touch nothing, and the PC is auto switched to the projector- perfect
    - when blu ray player is on (pc not needed), I touch nothing, the blu ray is auto switched to the projector- perfect!
    - when projectior and bluray are off, but PC on, I touch nothing, the PC video out shows up on the VGA port - perfect!
    - at anytime I can force with HDMI switch to any output via a hard button or its own remote.

So for those needing an HDMI switch, likely to integrate legacy equipment, for use with a HDMI port on a video card running with Windows 10, I can actually recommend this one! IOGEAR 4PORT 4K HDMI SWITCH GHDSW4K4.

Nice going, glad it worked out for you. Yes, when i said before about power helping i did not remember reasons why can help, no after reading i seen it. Most who buy these use them for HDTV with only one HDMI port.
