    Dual monitor issue

    Hi guys,

I am trying to connect two monitors to a single laptop, so that I can extend the display across both monitors. The devices are:

Dell SE2417HGXF Full HD Gaming Monitor, 24" (x2)
    ACER - Aspire 5 A514-52 14" Laptop - Intel® Core™ i5, 256 GB SSD
Splitter - Rankie HDMI Cable, High-Speed HDTV Cable, Supports Ethernetm, 3D, 4K and Audio Return, 1.8 m

When I connect everything up I can see the screen displayed on both monitors, however nothing happens when I try and extend using the projector settings. When I go to display settings I cannot find the second monitor, when I "Detect" i get the message you can see in the attached.Display settings.docx

I can extend across one monitor and my laptop screen, however it doesn't find my second monitor when I have the laptop lid up or down. I have updated all drivers, however again I seem to be having issues with one of the monitors as the Dell driver does not appear. See attached Drivers.docx

Can anyone help with this please? I'm using WIndows 10 Pro. I have tried another laptop and encountered the same issue.

    Thanks
    Mike

Hi I would think the splitter will make it look like just one monitor is hooked up.

you could get one of these and hook up the second one so both external monitors on separate outputs Robot Check=

There are two types of 3 screen options,

The first is 3 screens through 3 individual outputs, VGA / DVI-HDMI x2. This can sometimes cause problems where only two monitors are ever on at one time and triple screen cannot be done.

The next is 3 screen with Eyefinity/SLI through 3 individual outputs VGA / DVI-HDMI / Mini-Display port which uses an active connection adapter.

Sapphire do an Active 3 screen adapter for Display port maybe worth looking in to, might help

"one" HDMI or DVI etc output from a PC or laptop can only provide "one" video signal. The splitter just sends that "one" video signal to two monitors. They have no choice but to be duplicates of each other. As far as the source of the signal goes, it only see "one" device / monitor.
I run triple displays on my desktop PC, DVI, DVI, HDMI. I also run dual displays on my laptop, the built in and a USB Display Link monitor. I could run triple I guess if I connected a monitor to its HDMI out. I went Display Link because it simplifies things for me. Power and signal through the one USB 3 cable. Plus its a very thin monitor that I can fit in my laptop bag with my laptop. Very light also.

Hi guys - thanks for the replies. So there is nothing I can do to get the second monitor to extend across to the second monitor - no device etc which can be purchased to achieve this? I'm only looking to hook up two monitors, not three.

    Thanks

If you connect one monitor directly to the HDMI, and a second monitor via a USB to HDMI it should be doable. How you turn off the laptops internal display and run two others I'm not sure? Extend will leave it on. And I'm not sure if the "Second Screen only" option will use both external monitors.

I do have an idea but its a long shot,

    Its called 'Soft TH'

With this i have managed 3 screens with 2 old Nvidia cards over 1x17" Wide and 2x15" 4/3 monitors for playing a car simlator game, GT Legends.
The cheat type style setup back then gave me the edge and still hold records today for laptimes, talking about 2005/06, hooah

Soft TH3 i see out now

And you'll also notice that a true eyefinity or SoftTH Youtube video is tru to form when you see it in a very thin screen and not very tall in height. A triple screen setup can play back any tru to form recorded eyefinity setup on youtube, the thinner screen view is a dead give away. I recorded 2 hrs of me playing Far Cry 2 Eyefinity and the total size was way above anything you can ever imagine. Cant begin to realise to overall bandwidth needed to ever stream a real 5760x1080p resolution, its huge. The emmersion is amazing

With SoftTH best to work out what each monitors max resolution is. Figure each ones ratio. The config files let you change each monitors resolution. It can be a lot of testing rebooting restarting but once setup its well worth it
