Laptop won't display via HDMI since April 2018 update just taken

Well once again a Windows update has broken Windows for me. I took what was called the April 2018 update and now I can not display my screen to my TV via HDMI. I try to detect a second monitor and it doesn't find it. Hope someone has seen this before. This is the only PC that has had this issue.

Try the obvious, use another HDMI cable. Hit Win+P and make a screen selection. Next, check that the correct input on TV is selected. What happens ?

Thanks for the reply MrGeek. When I hit Win+P I get a msg that no other monitor can be connected and to change driver or video card. I moved the laptop to a different TV using a different HDMI cable and have the same msg.

Device Manager reports a yellow exclamation mark on the display adapter which is an Intel UHD Graphics 620. I have attempted to update it but it comes back as already having the best driver and nothing was changing or working. I tried installing it manually from a downloaded zip also. Always the same result.

I have now resorted to trying a system restore to get it back the way it was before this "critical update" broke it. I don't know what else to do.

I will report back if the system restore works. Your comments are welcomed!

Look under the Device Manager/Sound, video and game controllers and check that the Intel HD Audio device is listed (mine is AMD). This will tell you if the HDMI connection recognized. Try uninstalling the display driver entirely (r-click/Uninstall device), then restart the computer. Windows will retrieve a working driver. See if that works. Did you look on this Intel page for driver update ? Seems it's updated regularly. Series

is April Creators Update specific, try the oldest one and work your way up until it breaks- https://downloadcenter.intel.com/pro...D-Graphics-620

If you do the System Restore and it works, note in Device Manager, the driver version (r-click driver Properties/Driver tab) that is working so you can 'Roll back' to it if a future update breaks it again. Good Luck.

Thanks for all your help! The system restore worked but when it came up Device Manager still wasn't happy. However, this time it let me update the driver rather than saying the best driver was loaded, and it went out to the Internet and downloaded the driver and installed.

Device Manager was happy once again and my picture popped right back in the way it used to be.

Now, I will make a restore point with it all fixed and note the driver version as you said so I can rollback to it. But I am good to go for now! Thanks again!

    Good to hear !

    "

Intel looks like it updates the driver all the time, so hopefully a future one will fix your issue but good to have working version # as backup.
Mark topic Solved to help others with similar problem find this thread, thanks.
