I don’t know whether it is helpful but in my computer there is only one user (administrator) and I login with my MS ID

Well I'm happy to say that I'm a step further along but not at the end yet.

I had been stuck with the 'We are getting search ready' message and while it was able to search apps, documents, store and web it would not find any control panel items or settings options.

I had tried deleting the search folder in programdata, I had reset Cortana, I had rebuilt the index in index options - none seemed to make a difference.

In my latest step, I went into Index options and took a look what one of my working PCs was indexing and ticked and unticked boxes till my other PC was the same.

This left me with the following only, complete with the same exclusions:

    "We're getting search ready" error - Windows/Cortana Search-capture.jpg

I saw it was re-indexing and, after about a minute, I was able to go to the search box and finally the 'We are getting search ready' message is gone. It is now also showing 'old' control panel items and settings related to the 'old' control panel. However, what it is not showing is any settings related to the 'new' metro-esque settings application. So when I type 'updates' I see 'View Installed updates' as a listing, but not 'windows update settings' or 'manage map settings'.

    Aaargh - so close !

I would just like to add to the frustrated user base! I am getting this too on Win 10 Pro x64, blimmin' "We are getting search ready..." and nothing showing other than a bing search (unless I manually press "My Stuff" when it clearly just runs an unindexed search).

I've stuck Win 10 on 7 various machines now and it's only occurring on one (which happens to be my master machine grr!). I've tried all suggestions in here and I can't solve it. I hope some clever bod manages to figure out what the heck is going on! :)

I too was having this same issue on an upgraded Win 7 box. I noticed that when I started a search in the Cortana box and while the "We're getting search ready" box came up the SearchUI/Cortanta task was taking 3-4% of the CPU. So I just left it that way (with the search dialog still up) and came back an hour later and everything was working fine. Right before that I had toggled the firewall on/off but I don't think that was it.

"We're getting search ready" will come up every time indexing is doing is thing and is supposed to go away when it's done. Since "fixing" my problem, I've seen it come up at least once when adding new stuff, but it went away once the indexer finished. That's normal operation for the lucky folks.

Prior to fixing my issue (and like others are seeing) no amount of waiting is enough for it to go away. I let my main computer run for over a day before working to fix it.

Right, same here. No amount of waiting was enough for it to go away.....until I let the dialog say active and then walked away for an hour.

Add me to the list of affected users. I have upgraded 3 laptops and only have the issue on one of them. Tried all the above without success so far. Hopefully there'll be a windows update that resolves this soon.
