Windows 10 Software Retention?

    Windows 10 Software Retention?


    Hello,

    I have my OS installed on an SSD. I have all of my other software (many games) installed on HDDs. Will the software need to be reinstalled when I upgrade to Windows 10?

    Some may but most will work without you having to do anything.

    Any idea what time Windows 10 will be available? I just dont want to spend years reinstalling everything...

    It started downloading to peoples computers this morning. The installations will start on the 29th but no idea exactly when. I don't think anyone knows.

    It's not a forced upgrade. It will download then tell you it's ready to be installed then let you choose when.

    Did you reserve a copy? If not you won't get the free upgrade.

    Yes I reserved a copy. I'm just deciding whether or not to install it. If I have to reinstall everything, then I'd have to clear a week to do that.

    To add a little detail:

    If you upgrade to 10 in the default manner, keeping all data files and applications, most of your installed software may run without any actions from you.

    Games are another matter, because they may be programmed more for performance than compatibility.. Here's an unofficial list:
