Woke Up and Found Win10 Upgrade already Downloaded

I had opted out on that PC before hand, I don't know if you have to though? I initially opted out thinking that would get me the official consumer release. In the end I had no way to really tell or not. That's why I did the upgrade latter on as a test. I didn't expect it to actually do the upgrade, but it did. Now I'm pretty sure that even if it was RTM before that, it is for sure now.

Yes, it tells you how to upgrade from 7 or 8.1. I don't see anything about what you do if your running Build 10240 though and want to go to the consumer release?

I believe it is the consumer release.

Yes, that tool upgrades your Windows 7 or 8.1 PC to the consumer release. What I meant was, there has been no instructions on what you do if your running the Insider Preview and want to opt out and run the consumer release? I clicked Stop receiving insider builds but is that all you have to do? It was an upgrade from Windows 7 so it does qualify. I think I'm good to go now, but only from blind luck. I won't know for sure until I do a clean install. I have MSDN and keys anyway so no big deal really.

I'm thinking if you do the upgrade from 7 or 8 first and it is activated,
then you can do the clean install with out any problem's.

I just received a Microsoft email from Gabe Aul.

Looks like Win 10 will be using Win 7 or 8.1 product key number.

As for Windows Insider Program:

"The Windows Insider Program will continue after 7/29, and we'll have more information for you soon about how the program will work going forward. I hope you’ll continue to join us on this exciting journey. "

Everybody else running vista, Xp etc will have to buy a copy of Win 10.

People can still remain with the insider program regardless if they didn't upgrade to windows 10 or did a clean install of 10. Most insiders would not purchase a windows 10 or give up a windows 7 or 8.1 key to keep testing newer builds for Microsoft.
