What was the version you upgraded from? If it is windows 7 dell, you will need to do it differently.

    from windows 8.1 pro

Just updated successfully from 8.1 Pro, via the Media Creation tool. Was getting the error from WU itself, thus I just used the tool. All went well, programs and files still intact, and license is activated. Device shows up on my Microsoft account, as Windows 10 & activated. Painless process :)
Getting nowhere via WU or upgrade icon which has just remained at the "OK, email me when ready" stage. Using the media creation tool from the MS site, as soon as I started to download the .iso that extra folder "$Windows~WS" appeared on the C Drive. Why would that trigger the creation of this folder when I'm just downloading a ISO to burn to DVD?

Well, after my successful Upgrade from Windows 7 64 bit, Home Premium to Windows 10 Home I came to post my first impressions - experiences. :)

I have Upgraded using the new Media Creation Tool. I couldn't wait to upgrade via the reservation icon. The Upgrade went well and Windows 10 activated right away. During the upgrade process the installer (or the tool) sought for updates for quite some time. After the Upgrade though neither my GPU driver nor extremely important drivers and files, like the Intel INF and IME, or the AHCI drivers, were up to date. My web-camera for example had a Microsoft driver from 2006, whereas my sound-card appeared in the Device Manager without a driver, at all.

I do not mind all this, of course, because I always keep my drivers, latest versions, on a USB stick so I have used them on the clean installation I have performed right after the Upgrade - so, right after my Windows 10 Home got activated. So, after deleting my entire SSD (unallocated it), I clean-installed, installed the drivers, and everything went swell.

Just out of curiosity, to see what Windows 10 update will do, I have not installed the NVIDIA driver. Here is the result after checking for updates (numerous times). The following also shows all the updates I have received:

It shows that my GPU's driver has failed but Win 10 managed to install some driver, anyway! I am not sure which driver exactly this is because I do not have the NVIDIA Control Panel, neither the GeForce Experience. Here is what the Device Manager shows:

Again, I do not mind because whenever I wish I can install the latest (manually). Until a few minutes ago though NVIDIA is still offering the same driver for Win 10. No updates on their site.

In the screenshot above, of the driver, you can perhaps observe the terrible blurriness certain Windows Components display in my monitors, in which I always use 125% Zoom. Just observe the difference between the Title bar and the rest. This has NOT been fixed. Neither has it been fixed the "Menus" size from "Change the text size only". The notifications icon still lights up randomly - without any new notifications on the Action Center. I have managed to set the 24h time format on the Lock Screen but I haven't tested if AM/PM is now available. The only thing that appears to be fixed, so far, is that now no application (like the DDE Server window etc) is preventing the computer from shutting down / restarting. I hope it won't appear again.

Okay... I don't know if I forget something... In overall, I am happy with Windows 10 Home. :)
I have customized all the Privacy and Security settings to my preferences, I will never use an MS account, I have applied (some of) Sean's SSD Optimization Guide for Win 8, I will apply some of Viper's suggestions, as well, and... I will start using the OS regularly :)

After a day or two I will install the most recent TP on my other SSD and continue as an Insider, too.

    Thanks :)

As it (upgrade version) is same as comparable last TP same troubles may be expected. Hope parts manufacturers will soon get of their collective you know what and produce some civilized drivers, specially GPUs. If it's any consolation, AMD drivers are not any better yet but that problem with fuzzy letters in some places might be intrinsic to Windows themselves and in that case MS is to blame. Scaling is not to good in W10 since beginning and maybe that is what's stopping better customization options.

As of this morning my $Windows.~BT folder had 5.93Gb in it. I've tried to use Windows Update but have had 2 fails for Win10 Home. Did 1-3 on the above list. "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download" was empty. Now the $Windows.~BT folder has dropped from 5.93Gb to 140Mb & stuck & C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download has 30.8Mb of data! Huh?

Dunno where my original post went, but just did this again on my second PC (Win 7 Ultimate) and it is now ready to install.

I don't know if there's any rime or reason for those holdups with upgrading, seems so random. Some succeed, some don't irregardless of base windows or location or time or.....

I understand you, and it's all right, I am not complaining :) Just mentioning a few (known) bugs, in a hurry. NVIDIA has a new (official) driver, I'm downloading it right now :)

We own 2 desktop Mac's, a desktop PC & a laptop PC. A while ago, Mac notified us that their latest "Yosemite" OS was ready to install. It took awhile to download the data but all went smoothly for both.

In contrast look at today for PC owners.

As a previewer I immediately reserved Win10 for my PC. I only use my HP laptop when traveling so I updated everything last week & reserved for it too. Yesterday, my desktop had the $Windows.~BT folder with 5.93Gb in it. My laptop didn't. I figured the desktop would go smoothly this morning & the real trouble would be with the laptop. WRONG!

With all the chaos today I finally found a work-around & my desktop is installing Win10 at this moment. The laptop has WU indication it READY! Go figure.
