My free upgrade hasn't started on any of my PC's yet. ISO's and Keys are up on MSDN now though. My keys are listed as Retail keys. You will need keys for some installations, that's for sure. I'm still waiting to see how the free upgrade handles that part though.

So my download happened. I downloaded the ccreation tool from MS and it asked if I wanted to upgrade or create media. So im creating ISO at the moment. Hopefully I will be able to run it again to upgrade this PC. But I wanted the ISO for future use. Im guessing no one knows how a fresh install will work with regards the product key from windows 7?

3AM here in California, just woke up like half an hour ago. Downloaded (Think it was already downloaded <.<) and installed Windows 10. Less then 20 minutes.

I was running Windows 8.1 Pro not Windows 10 Pro.

    I was running Windows 8.1
Found the tool and started downloading after 3am EST indicating as I suspected we saw with the 7 RC that 10 would be up on the servers at least for the Windows Insider Program a little early?!

Since I reserved the freebie even while downloading now I still have to wait for the email to come in with the information like possible product key along with the download link I won't even be needing but still the key if ? for the Pro edition.

Presently the ISO download seems to be stuck at 92% while I already have the flash drive set to go. The snipping posted earlier indicates a second folder you should have found if fully downloaded since that has all the necessary installation files! $Windows~WS sits right below $Windows~BT! That contains the Partners folder along with the Windows folder where you find the boot, efi, x86 and/or x64 folder(s) depending on what options you selected during the download.

The usb flash has the setup.ese along with the boot files in addition to those folders. The And/or is null here having selected both the 32bit and 64bit combination. That will later allows for a VM when booted into 7 since VM Player doesn't like the 64bit much it would seem.

I gave up on my notebook with five upgrade failures and installed via an ISO. All went fine. Only reason I didn't do this months ago was I wanted to see how this automated upgrade would go - now I know - not well.

MSDN Windows 10 ISO's are like the MSDN Windows 8.1 ISO's. Multi edition, Home and Pro. Product key determines which version is installed. When using the Windows 8.1 MSDN ISO, you have to enter a product code if one isn't detected in the BIOS. Setup will not continue unless you do. I'm expecting the Windows 10 ISO's to be the same.

I have a bunch of failures listed in Windows update. I think it tries to install every time you boot up, reboot or run Windows update. I do believe Microsoft held back a file or two so it can't update until they say it can. I'm going to wait it out and see what happens.
