I've lived in the US for so long that I forgot that there was an A involved.

On the 29th are insiders going to have to download and install basically what we already have all over again? Wouldn't it make more sense for MS to send a small update, much like the "security updates", that tells our systems that it's the "final release"? Besides any possible fixes, all we really need is the menu to let us choose whether or not we want to stay and insider; if not an option to upgrade a Win 7/8.* key to Win 10 and hopefully an option to download an ISO (at some point).
Mr E is right - we just don't know.

If MS follows naming convention, then the release will be 10.1.0 - the .1 signifies production, not beta code. That alone means everything will have to have been compiled or bound to libraries as a new release.

I expect a download and upgrate to be required

The branch is probably th2, which will be automagically updated the same way fbl_impressive was changed to th1.
    Builds from th2 | BuildFeed

    Strike that ...

The production release will most likely come from windowsupdate.com - MS's digital repository.

At this point it is anybody's guess if the update on the 29th will be a complete OS or just a small definition installation.

My guess, if a new build doesn't come down the pipe by then well just get a small update/patch to give us the option to go Consumer Release or stay in the Insiders program. If they do release a new build you'll be doing another upgrade via Windows update first.

Who says we will have to? You're making a lot of assumptions.

Fact is, we just don't know. If the final release is a new build number, you'll have to go through a whole build upgrade. If it's not, then chances are it will likely just be patches. Hard to say until the day of...
I'm not making any assumptions, I'm asking questions because so many others are making assumptions that insiders will be hogging the servers thus no one but insiders will get Win 10 until days or even weeks later.

No, MS said the 29th and that means a production release on the 29th. All hell would break loose if they missed the date. Pigs would learn how to fly and Zombies would eat your plants.

Who gets it is the loop hole. Insiders were told they are first in line ... as long as the code gets delivered, MS met the date.

One company I worked for shipped empty boxes because the date for the product had arrived and the product wasn't ready, another company sent blank tapes out. I didn't work for either company very long after those shenanigans.

As long as something gets delivered, the company can claim that the date they chose was met.

QVC is taking orders for machines pre-loaded with Win 10, but the ship date is delayed (Dell->5 August and HP->20 August). Even Newegg slipped the date for boxed Win10 to 31 July.

Anyway, I've sqaid it before ... 20 August looks like a real date to expect Win10 on non-Insider machines - the MS Stores have a global event - um event at all stores on that date and it seems to match up nicely. Insiders test the real code again - real upgrades, real questions and hopefully real answers from MS. The product will be 'out' and there won't be the need for as much ambiguity.

I think that you missed my point because your post pretty much just repeated what my post had already said. Nobody really knows what Microsoft will send out on the 29th, it might be a complete new build or it might just be an update to build 10240. Only time will tell.
