Cannot wait!!!! Especially for Windows Phone 10! It'd be nice to not be on developer grade software for once!
Hi there
If I'm on a Crowded tube train in London or on a plane and stuck into the middle seat between two hugely obese passengers and want to read a tablet wouldn't the optimal system be for the actual scrolling to be done via EYE MOVEMENT rather than a physical motion.
Current hardware should make this quite easy -- Then the tablet would react according to how you want it.
If I'm reading say an online newspaper I'd prefer VERTICAL scrolling - the newspaper software fits into the screen size whether in Landscape or Portrait mode so you don't have to scroll HORIZONTALLY when reading --that's unnatural anyway.

make sure you don't get a tablet that's non MS then
you wouldn't be able to operate it if horizontal scrolling is so bad
when reading a book/newspaper all the ones over here you turn page horizontally, not seen any that have vertical page turns
kindle/kobo books apps, zinio for magazines and a newspaper app on android which I forgot its name all have horizontal page turning
Hi there
I read The Times quite a lot on my Samsung S5 phone -- In portrait mode it's very readable and I scroll the page DOWN to continue reading.
If I had to scroll both Horizontally And vertically to read the entire article I'd probably be arrested for chucking the phone at another passenger !!!.
It depends on what you really are doing with the application -- same with Kindles -- OK you swipe to the next page - but that's only good if an entire page fits on to the screen. It would be absolute Purgatory using a Spreadsheet on one of these devices where you had to scroll both vertically and horizontally. With the surface Pro you can select the part of the spreadsheet you want (like a desktop) and scroll down (vertically) the spreadsheet.
There's probably no 100% method of using touch devices that will satisfy everybody all the time.
Cheers

Which way does the home pages scroll on your Samsung, unless things have changed since I had an S3 it is horizontal
If it is still horizontal, how would you feel if it suddenly became vertical and you lost one or two columns of icons? so you lost the amount of apps per page, down to only showing 2 or 3 columns of apps
Me personally I like Windows 10 better than I do 8.1. I like the combined All Apps/ Tiles start menu better thus I no longer have a need for "StartIsBack". EDGE looks promising but we still have to wait for the "Add Ons" etc.
Hopefully when M$ moves all of the Control Panel functions to Settings we will still have most of the same options because with two very different interfaces the OS looks half complete & patched together.
IMHO this existed since Win 8 and the first priority should have been to migrate the Control Panel to Settings from the Get Go.
Hopefully In a couple of years time M$ will add amazing new features that most like and haven't even thought of yet and improve current features through feedback.
Not really that excited about a new OS. The fact that Microsoft has made the GUI even worse than Windows 8, this may be the straw to break the Camel's back. Even with Start10 installed, it does nothing with the fact that Microsoft has embedded the Metro screen further into the Desktop.
It is faster than Windows 8, but that is really as far as I am going.
Yeah I am looking forward to Windows 10. Plenty of people are going to want their Windows 7 back and that is going to cost them dearly if they have not made a backup which of course most won't have. Seven Forums and Ten Forums are going to be busy places in the next few months.
I as an old fart have one recommendation for the youngsters out there who are excited about the release of Windows 10. Despite the efforts of many it is not as stable as Seven and Eight. Creative Labs as usual will not have complete drivers until October 2015 in many cases. Some scanners, printers and gadgets are not going to be seen and drivers not installed. If you can I would ensure you can get drivers for all your devices before you upgrade. Better still wait a few months. Yes it will be cool to be first with a crashed PC won't it. Advice for the idiots out there, do not upgrade all your computers at once. It is possible however unlikely that you could brick all of them and PC repair shops are going to love you.
Be patient and take your time. Me I have 4 virtual machines running Ten and that is how it will stay for now. To me it is not ready for prime-time and I'll upgrade(?) some or one of my machines in six months to a year.
