So no one can disagree with you or they are arguing. He has an ISO that is not From MS, and you want him to upgrade his Windows 8.1. I am not arguing just stating a safer way to go.
I have found that if you disagree with our passive-aggressive Bunny, you might as well just exit the thread. He is immovable. If you disagree with him, you are arguing. Don't take it personally - I sure don't.

    Fact:
Any activated copy of 7/8/8.1/10IP will remain activated after an update via ISO (from within the previous OS).

sigh.. I used an ISO that I got from Microsoft New for my upgrade and I've had zero issues.
The OP did not say where he got his ISO. MS is not providing them any longer. But like you said, the OP is free to do as he pleases.

[QUOTE=sgage;283967]But first you'll want to make an image of your 8.1 system to put back on to catch the official upgrade/QUOTE]

Absolutely, even if you are not a tinkerer. However, I am a tinkerer with a few spare SSD's. I clone and "experiment" with the clones. Have upgraded Windows 7 and 8.1 using this method as well as clean installs.
