I am not a gamer or an IT person although what is funny is that when I first started using PCs in the 90s...I thought they would be a tool to serve us. However, it turned out this was not the case. My hand writing has always been terrible. I opened an office in Western, PA and my business partner who was not a physician, made his fortune in software and knew computers. We setup a server with stations. I was running DOS, Win 3.1, and Zenix. I was a beta site for an electronic medical record which was really very sophisticated for its time. I had to do all the boiler plate programing. I don't recall what software I could get on win 3.1...maybe Harvard graphics. Maybe my Word Processing which was not Word at that time. Zenix was for my billing...that system..medical manager was awful and I could never learn how to run it and it cost me a fortune in support to use it. See where I am going.
Cut to windows 98. Every six months like clock work I would have to reinstall the OS and then my programs....yeah..I had heard about this thing called Norton Ghost lol. But I did not know anything about imaging or how to use it.
The thing is, I was not supposed to! I am not the only one. I have friends who are health care providers of one sort or another who have lamented about how difficult and/or costly it has been and is to use computers. Making matters worse, the government monograph, To Err is Human, offering he benefits of digitalizing many aspects of medicine, was written in 1999. It is now 2015 and we are nowhere near where we should be to fully get the benefit from digitalizing many aspects of medicine. Frankly, I think it is a disaster. My own Internist refuses to use an EMR!
This is incredibly ironic considering that the NSA seems to have what they down very well
