Everything matters, but how much, I've got a 6 year old 3ghz computer and a 18 month old Core i7 Mac Mini, when I run Windows I can't tell the difference.
Same with cameras, I've got cameras from 6 mp to 16mp, the only time it matters is like you say, when you zoom in or crop.
I reckon 20 MP on a phone is getting ridiculous, better off concentrating on lens and other things.
Yikes, I can't believe that a Mac Mini would perform that poorly.

a 6 year old 3GHz is at most a dual core, probably a single core. An i7 Mac Mini is probably a dual core 5th gen, the performance difference between these should be massive.

The Nokia 1520 has a 42MP camera, which makes it one of the best smart phone camera's there is. But a 4MP in the m8? Yikes.

The 6 year old is an E8400 Core 2Duo, running on 4 GB Ram,one of the best chips around for quite some time. The Mini is running a Quad Core with 6MB Cache with Turbo boost to 3.3 Ghz on 10 GB Ram, the last of the fast Mini's, like I said numbers don't always mean much, when machines are already running very fast.

I'll put it this way, if you were siting in a car at 200kph or 250kph, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

From what I can remember that 48MP isn't real either, but if it is I stand corrected. I'm happy with the camera on the M8, the number one thing for me was low light shots, which it handles beautifully. If I need pixels I'll grab one of my Canons.

I've had my Nokia Lumia 1520 phablet for 18 months now. A Droid X2 prior. I think the phablet size is an absolute must to have let alone a Windows phone. I wouldn't go back to a smaller one if given to me.

MS services, OneDrive, Office (phone version), OneNote, and other great apps all free is a bonus.

    It's a 20MP camera BTW. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/mobil...pecifications/

    They're just simply beautiful. :)

I love my Nokia 520 with Windows 8.1, but I do not want Windows 10 on it.

Sorry, it's the Lumia 1020 that has the 41MP camera.

That's quite OK. We all make mistakes.

OMG, the 20MP camera on this 1520 are crisp and clear even taken in low light without flash. I can't fathom 41MP.

I'm hoping they develop an eight-or-so-inch phablet with powerful resources/peripherals including docking station. That would be the ultimate device IMO. After all, that's where they are heading.

I just went ahead and bought a Lumia 930.
Sadly not mine, but I've used a Lumia 925 and was impressed with its ability to capture video. Hopefully the 930 is similar?

    Yes. I have an 830 and 1520.

830 is on 10 build 10149 as a daily driver and it works quite good.

I get the occasional inability to enable mobile hotspot and bluetooth to the car for Cortana is borked, but that's all that's really annoying.

The 1520 is needed for 4k video and 10's Lumia camera app was broken so I had to revert to 8.1 for now, but it'll be back on it on the next build to see if it works.

I say, if you can hold out for a bit, the rumored devices this fall are going to have Windows Hello with the iris scanning capability. Can't wait for them. Supposedly rumored to be the 940 and 940xl. a 5" and 5.7" phone respectively and Continuum.

I personally would love to see them drop the low end chase and just go with re-branding these two as flagships to fall in line with the other flagships like Surface and Surface Hub. Surface phone would complete that portfolio of products for me.

When I accidentally took my Nexus 5 in the pool with me ... Yes it was an accident. I went with a Lumia 640 with Cricket. I have been quite pleased thus far although like most people's complaints, lack of apps. I personally feel that Windows 10 will fix that with the universal platform design so I look forward to it. The integration between the phone and my laptop is great and Windows 10 will only make it better. So far a solid choice, if they offer a significantly better Windows model I will jump on it.

That 640 is a nice device. Nice specs for the price. Apps, yeah that's an old story. Although, nowadays I have every app I need. A couple of trendy apps and games aren't going to be the deciding factor for me. The phone has become less and less used since I use my SP3 mostly. If your phone is the only go to device for you, I can understand the concern.
