I searched for a Windows update before I searched for the 3rd party fix... when I get the update I'll remove the fix.

    well at least for me
The problem for the Edge window has not been addressed as of the release I'm using: 10.0.10586 N/A Build 10586 (as per the SYSTEMINFO command in PowerShell.) What version and build are you on? The issue in the File Explorer window was fixed in a build release awhile back though. And I've not seen the issue on any other windows.

Hasn't been fixed for me... because I use multiple desktops. I feel the pain of the person that posted earlier with a multiple-monitor setup, that has all their windows show up on their first monitor after a reboot -- except it's worse, because I can't just drag them to a different monitor, I have to deal with a miniaturized version of my windows in Task Mode.

For those of you for whom ShellFolderFix worked -- does it also send windows to the correct desktop after a reboot if you have multiple desktops? If not, I might just spring for that WindowManager thing -- I hate paying money for something that should be a working part of the OS, but at the end of the day I don't have the time to just complain about it, I have to actually get work done.

@slinkygn - there are shortcut keys to move windows to different screens.

In Win10's native multiple desktops? I don't think that's true. That's the whole point of GitHub - nullpo-head/Windows-10-Virtual-Desktop-Switching-Shortcut: A tool to make up for the lack of shortcut in windows 10, after all. Am I mistaken?

Tried it myself. In case anyone is wondering: no, ShellFolderFix does *not* work across multiple desktops in Win10. So much for that. :/ Makes Win10 multiple desktops pretty much a worthless feature for any but the simplest use cases.

I can handle the different window positions, but, if I open another instance of File Explorer, please, at least cascade somewhere on the display I'm working on and not spill onto the second monitor!

In every version of Windows 10 I have used, including the most recent official build (and unlike every previous Windows including XP, Vista, 7, 8, etc...) my window positions on the desktop are not remembered (sticky) each time I close the window. Meaning that each time I open a window I have to either re-position it or adapt to whereever Windows has chosen to place it. This completely shoots a hole in my workflow of just about anything I am trying to do.

Does anyone know a way to fix this? I'm hoping this is not something I have to wait for MS to fix. I have submitted feedback on this with each tech preview build.

    Thanks.

Do not open the program with a shortcut. open the actual program such as edge or chrome and resize. close program. open with the short cut link and the window should open in the last size you closed it.

Good news! With the update to the "anniversary edition" (1607?) this problem has FINALLY been addressed! I'll start using Edge now. However, I still don't like that I can't make shortcuts open in a new tab instead of a new window (presumably w/o holding down ctrl) and can't set new tabs to open to the home page, or any page of my choice. I DO like that I can now change the download location though...

That took FOREVER... Well over a year.
