Anyone was able to fix this with 2 monitors with different resolution?
I've a dell 24" 1920x1200@60hz connected with DVI (monitor) to HDMI (PC) cable, and a dell 27" 3840x2160@60hz connected with miniDP (monitor) to DP (PC) cable.

My videocard is Ati Radeon R9 380 4GB on Windows 10 Pro.

If use native resolution without any kind of modification about dpi and text resolution (everything is at 100%), each monitor is perfect without blur, but on 27" 4k text, icon and programs are too much small for a daily use.

If change dpi resolution for text on my first screen (27) to 125% (will be perfect for work..), screen is perfect on 27", but i got blur on 24".
If change dpi resolution also on 24" to 125%, everything is ok, on 24" and also on 27", but text, icons and generally applications on 24 are too big for a daily use.

My catalyst drivers, Crimson 16.1.1, allow to enable some options on each monitor, like Virtual Super Resolution (only on 24") and Scaling GPU (on 24 and 27).

    Blurry text-cattura.png

Tried to enable VSR on 24, and set 3840x2400, screen on 24 become blurried.. Enable Scaling GPU on 24, same..
Changin dpi for text, app and icons.. same.. ONLY IF SET DPI AT 250% (like 125% when use native resolution), EVERYTHING BACK TO BE CLEAR.. but there is the same problem: icons and applications are too big for work.
    Tried to set 2560x1600 same..

    I don't understand..

Tried the Windows10dpi fix.. and set resolution with this app.. but the problem still remain..

It's possible to fix this?!?!? It's possible to tell to system that i need that the second monitor (24) must to be in the same condition that i use when it's normal.. (sorry for this english..)

    Thanks man..

Not necessarily, you can easily obtain the iso from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/techbench and upgrade from that one (that's what I did). You won't need to reinstall anything, Windows will just reset some basic preferences (I remember I had to reinstall my customized pointers and a very few minor things). :)

I got Windows 10 with OS Build 10586.164. Blurry text issue exists. Confirmed in Chrome, Firefox, Office 2016. Does not seem to exist in Windows Explorer.

    Main monitor: 3840x2160 @125%.
    Second monitor: 2560x1600 @100%.

Blurry text occurs on the second monitor. If I set the second monitor to 125% text looks good.

Is the fix (you said it's fixed) from 10576 not included in 10586.164?

    Hi,

Just registered on here because I am pulling my hair out with this issue. I have been using Windows 7 (I've defeated all edge enhancement and smoothing which you can do with a few tweaks. My eyes have never gotten on with Cleartype).

When I upgrade to Windows 10 I just for the life of me cannot get things looking 'sharp'.

I have tried turning cleartype off and changing fonts to fonts such as Ariel which work better without any type of edge enhancement but now my Windows 10 is just a mis-match of clean clear lines (desktop icons and explorer look great) and windows with blur (some settings screens and Windows 10 specific pages look blurry) and generally no matter what I do I can't get happy with it.

Within Edge and Chrome some things look great and other fonts just render horribly. In Chrome I had to use a tweak to disable DirectWrite and DirectWrite-UI which I don't need to do in Windows 7. This leaves most pages fine but with the odd font looking awful and pages like History and Settings still looking blurry. Its just a mess.

There seems to be no way to tweak Windows 10 like I could with Windows 7 to get rid of all edge enhancements and cleartype stuff.

I've tried upgrading to Windows 10 3 or 4 times now and just end up reverting back to Windows 7 because I cannot get the display looking how I want it. I've tried reading through this thread and there seems to be all kinds of different fixes for different issues so I am not actually sure which can help me.

    I have a Dell 24" (1920x1200) screen.

Any ideas on a set of instructions that will help?

    Thanks,

Blurred and washed out text seems to be a big problem.
My grey text are very light, white areas are over bright.

I am now using high contrast themes. When you get my age your eyes aren't
    like they were.

I'm running at 119% DPI, if I use 120% or above the Home button in Edge
    disappears?

I can't change font size either. I reboot and it won't take.
Clearly there seems to be some issues in windows 10 hope they can fix.
Seems they built this touchscreen for tablets and forgot about PC's.

Running 1680 x 1050 with AMD Radeon 6900 latest drivers and
    Asus VE monitor.

Different scaling levels on monitors causing blurry text seems to be exactly the problem. When I switch both monitors to the same scaling it looks good. 4k on 15inch at 125% is not really usable so I actually lowered resolution to full hd to keep both laptop and external monitor at 125%. Would be nice to have a real fix for that though...

The "Why" is not hard to explain - but it can be long-winded!

Windows, since Windows 8 appeared, is optimized for tablet/handheld/mobile displays which can be viewed interchangeably in either "portrait" or "landscape" orientation. It does not always look good on all desktop monitors and laptop screens, especially smaller screen sizes.

Before handheld computing, the great majority of desktop monitors were only used in landscape mode, and it was possible to smooth the text fonts using techniques such as "ClearType" which is a type of "subpixel rendering". This depends on each pixel on a colour LCD screen consisting of a red, green and blue vertical band making up each square pixel (an idea carried on from the Sony Trinitron CRT construction, whereas older CRTs used circular colour cells in a hexagonal array).

An explanation can be found here:

    http://alienryderflex.com/sub_pixel/

With handheld screens using both orientations, they do not use vertical subpixel bands. "ClearType" does not work on these screens.

Instead, in order to smooth screen fonts on any type of screen, a monochrome "antialiasing" technique is used by most modern Windows Apps and especially Windows Internet Explorer, and all Microsoft internet pages.

I find that grey scale antialiasing makes some vertical lines blurry in Internet Explorer, but Chrome is generally much sharper, until I visit Microsoft webpages, and others that use the same technology, like my bank, which look better thru IE. This is because a vertical line may spread over 3 pixels with antialiasing, but may only be about 1.7 pixels using subpixel rendering. Horizontal lines like strikeouts are not blurry.

What can you do? In System Properties, Performance Options, Visual Effects, you can try unchecking "Smooth edges of screen fonts" - which is how things were by default in classic XP, I seem to recall.

In Display, Adjust ClearType text, you can try adjusting the ClearType for best clarity and then toggle it on or off to see the difference.

Native screen resolution for your monitor is always the best option, so an up-to-date graphics driver specifically for your graphics chip will give you a better visual experience than Microsoft generic Video drivers, which can limit screen resolutions available. Usually 100% scaling is preferable, and standard text sizes, and if you can find a specific monitor driver, all the better - these may come with utilities that help adjust the screen for best brightness, contrast, gamma, and colour temperature to suit your vision.

Windows 10 has the Spartan Project, soon to become Microsoft Edge, but you can still try different browsers, like Firefox, Chrome or Opera, and then Safari for the Apple viewpoint, and download and burn a live linux disk such as Linux Mint, and try it out on your hardware for a different perspective altogether. Using the browser zoom control also can offer clearer text, by either enlarging or reducing the effective webpage size.
I believe you are correct and I have determined that also.

But, that does not explain why certain standard features don't work for some people
like changing font size, text in some apps is still grayed out even in high contrast and other really basic
stuff. I have a high end monitor with a great AMD graphics card and its trash except in high contrast.
My wife has NVidia graphics card and its not much better.

On my Asus monitor I had to play with the setting for about an hour before I became
comfortable after coming from windows 7. Not what I expected.

I'm really disappointed that a software company wants to determine my device by
not supporting what we all are use too over the years. I also have some pet peeves
about how windows 10 really buries stuff in the menus, like setting up "normal" users
    not MSN ones.

when you get my age you want to be able to see this stuff, now its harder.

    Hi all,

I come from windows 7, and since last yesterday I'm using my new laptop with windows 10 Pro. I lost almost 1 day trying to fix the problem of blurry text in a Dell Monitor 24" (1920x1200) @ 100% (recommended). At the begging I thought it was because the graphic card, but not.

The solution I applied? Change to 125% the external monitor (not recommended option). The blurry text issue was solved, but it is a workaround, not a real solution. I see programs bigger than I expected, and in my editor to code (sublime text 3) I have to modify a config file to see the same number of lines that I saw with windows 7.

The laptop has resolution 1920x1080 @ 125% (recommended). The blurry text issue was horrible.

I have read in this forum that issue is because the 2 monitors have different scales (125% to 100%). Then changing external monitor to 125% solve the problem. I have to try what happens if I set laptop screen and external monitor to 100%. Now I'm not at home.

I'm very disappointed and frustrated because of this. I have chosen to pay for windows 10 with my new laptop, and the blurry text issue is not acceptable. With the same monitor (2 HDMI ports) I use a 8 years old desktop computer connected by HDMI with windows 7 and I see the text and program windows better than with my new laptop with windows 10 connected by HDMI as well.
