After waiting all this time, I finally pulled the trigger and upgraded it myself with an ISO of 10240 created when upgraded my insider edition. ~Bt folder and all the files were downloaded and only last step was required but i never materialized. I just couldn't wait any more, enough is enough.
Everything is working just fine in dual boot with insider edition.

Who knows "Why" it's taking so long, specially on peoples machines that already ran a preview version. I only waited a week or two. You are a very patient man Mike!

Well, I had a perfectly (almost) running W10 IP and W8.1 on another drive so no hurry. Had a day off due to lack of material and upset stomach, so figured what the heck, if they don't want to, I will.
Now just to figure out which to use most of the time.

If it has not been made clear in the previous 10 pages... if you do an upgrade to a retail 7 or 8.x, you cannot clone your drive and move to a new machine and get activated. I tried on chat and phone with MS to get them to activate and they were under 'strict orders' to NOT do it, I ended up buying a retail version of 10 Pro for $139 from an online retailer and obtaining key and used it to activate. It was worth it to me to NOT have to reinstall all my software and now if I go back to previous box, won't be a problem. BUT if I had known this limitation, I may have delayed my upgrade until I moved drive to new box.

Wish that this limitation was made more... what? obvious? known? Oh, well

    Hi All,
I am planning to upgrade my office PC from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Will all the applications for e.g. terminator, SoapUI 1.6, TortoiseSVN 1.6.3 etc work as normal on Windows 10? Is there any way to find out the applications or application versions I am using are compatible wit Windows 10. I have around 250 applications at my workplace and its really hard to check if they will be compatible with windows 10.
    PLease Help..
    thanks

I'm afraid nobody can guarantee you that all those programs would work in W10. That's specially true when a specialized program is in question. Most off the shelf commercial programs are compatible, some of them have to be installed again to work properly. Even if you ask authors of some programs they probably wouldn't guarantee it to run on anything but OS they were made for unless of course they have a version specific to that OS.
To my thinking, the best way is to make full backup of the whole system (which for serious applications should be done anyway) and do the OS upgrade. If not satisfactory, you can always return to the backed up system relatively easy and fast.

Can I re-install Windows 10 from scatch (clean install) without first installing the older version? Can I do this after the 1 year period?
    * Yes and no. You *MUST* perform an upgrade install on any given PC you install it to (assuming you don't have a real Windows 10 key) the first time. After the first time, and you have a fully activated and genuine Windows 7/8.x, you can re-install as many times as you like clean (without first installing the old version). If you transfer to a new computer, you will once again have to install the older OS and perform the first upgrade.

    (To be continued....)

    clarification on this.
say i have upgraded my retail windows 8.1 pro to windows 10 pro. the windows 10 pro in effect is a retail. then come 2017 i upgraded my hardware and i need to clean install windows 10. does that mean i have to install my windows 8.1 first? how do i then upgrade it to windows 10? is there anyway to fresh install directly to windows 10 like saving a bootable disc or usb of a windows 10 copy or downloading a copy and just enter my windows 8.1 license key?
