LOL - me going crazy because of these stupid icons.

What I've found is.... any shortcut that is in the root of C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs does not show up at all.

The Adobe Creative Cloud icons won't show up no matter what I do. I've created new folders, created new shortcuts, etc., and nothing works.

Unfortunately the same goes for any of the icons in the root - if I create a new folder eg. "Testing" and put the shortcuts inside, they still won't show up in the start menu. However if I take a working shortcut from one directory in the start menu, move it to another, it works exactly as you'd expect.

You'd think installing all new Adobe apps might fix the problem, but nope.... the other day Adobe released the 2015 version of everything and I'm seeing the same result.

    Frustrating for sure...

Was there ever a resolution to this missing app icon on the start menu?

I am having the same issue after installing the latest beta and then reverting back to the original Windows 10 version.

    Thanks

I ended up doing a reinstall. In the end, it's faster to just give up and start over than trying to chase down and fix every problem.

My problem is similar to yours, but it seems I am less lucky. I have random icons showing/not showing from both ProgramData and AppData. I have reinstalled Windows 10 Pro (production), and it still doesn't work.

I'll try those 3 sugestions (icon cash, index rebuild, flagging items) and post the results.

use one of the options in teh above tut - both do the same thing in different ways

sometimes the index gets confused - rebuilding it might help.

Run both if rebuilding the icon cache doesn't help.

Just so I'm clear - you can see the All apps list, just no icons - right?
Are the icons present in the Appdata....Start menu or Program Data.....Start menu location?

Last suggestion: go to Settings > Presonalization > Start - toggle the switches one by one and check All apps between each option.
    Hi!

As I've mentioned before, my issue is quite similar to the one that had been previously reported. The difference is that I have random entries showing/not showing from both All Users and "User". I've tried the 3 methods above, and later I reinstalled Windows. The problem is still the same.
I'm still gonna try the "recreate" method you posted later, but I have about 150-200 missing entries. That Powershell command you mentioned would really come in handy.

    Best regards,
    Kayn

If it ends up in your Personal Start menu folder, you can move the shortcuts to the All user Start menu folder.
how can you open these folders considering they are shortcuts
that are not shortcuts but something else
and they won't let you open them?

Any fix to this issue? I still have this problem on win 10 home following an upgrade from 8.1.

I have tried rebuilding the icon cache, thumbnail cache, SFC Scannow, remove and reinstall software, copying shortcuts from the different start menus (roaming vs all users)

    All to no effect.....

I have tried all that, too, and nothing has worked. I ended up installing Classic Shell. It won't show the Metro-style right pane, but at least all the icons are there.
