Off topic: Start menu not working in build 10130. Anyone else got this problem?

Defrag is still available in 10130 in Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Defrag optimize.

OR: Computer > Right click C:\ drive ... or the drive you want to optimize > Properties > Tools tab > Optimize or defrag

Yes and it took me about as long to find a solution as there is between your question and my answer (11 hrs).

I ran all of the usual tools (WU, DISM, SFC, even tried WSRESET, Store apps updates, Re-reg apps - just in case some app was hanging it).

I fed MS some bits on it, but that was before I found something that worked on my machine. To be honest, some of those 11 hours were spent trying to solve a display issue (yep - AMD strikes again!) and I wrote a few lines of code just to break the lunacy.

Go to Settings>Personalization>Start and flip all the switches
You can get to Settings through the Action & Notification center (All Settings 'tile')

Like yourself, I tried everything and couldn't get it to open, so finally reloaded a ghost image of the C drive.

Thanks for that information, I hadn't even noticed that item in Personalization, but will store it in memory bank for future use ... very useful to know.

I'm still having some issues with 10.0.10130 Start.
Pin to Start doesn't work (pin to Taskbar is ok). I'm experimenting, looking for a workaround if not a solution.
    - removed all items from Start
locked Windows .... Start doesn't start - toggle settings still brings it back
-> it seems to be associated with Store and display recently opened programs in Start but toggling Use full-screen Start when in the desktop also helps sometimes.
Toggling the other options allowed me to see and remove items from that specific list (I could not before)

So now my Start is empty and my Taskbar is empty - nothing is pinned anywhere except Quick Access - that's next. The issue is still present. The jumplists are very cool now (I pinned folders to the Taskbar File Explorer) - this was broken/limited in 122.

Anyway.... it's still a preview release

Now I think back, I remember Start failed after I removed all items from "Recently added'.

If I'm reading you right, your jump list is made up of files pinned in the File Explorer folder with a shortcut placed on Taskbar? If that is correct, how do you add new folders to create a jump start list?

    My setup consists of:

    Frequently used desktop icons for:

    • Computer, Control Panel and Bin
    • Various system icons sent to desktop from folder locations; eg Int Explorer, Media Player, etc.
    • 3rd party programs/apps icons created when installed
    • Personal folders created and copied from 2nd internal storage SSD HD
    • Additional internal HDs, ext HDs, eSATA HDs, Partitions on main HD, and USB ports for flash drives
    • Taskbar shortcut to 'Desktop' used when desktop is simultaneously filled with open folders.

    Less frequently used items.

    • 'Jump Start' for 9 items pinned to Start menu as small size icons.

    Seldom used items.

    • All apps list

These are pics of my desktop, the 2nd with multiple folders open and Desktop taskbar shortcut open.

defrag.exe is the command line version, which is why it opens a window and closes right away when you click on it.
