Don't know if it has anything to do with it, but I'll ask anyhow: Upgrade or Clean install? With upgrades some things carry over.

hmmm, there used to be a setting "show administrator tools" but I haven't seen that for a while.

Don't know if this will help

try launching an elevated command propmt (right click - run as admin....)
    SFC /SCANNOW
    exit

That has put things back on the menu (things I intentionally removed) on this machine.

The other thing you might try is Settings>Personalization>STart
toggle on and off the full size menu option. It might just jar a bit that's needed to show the folder in All apps - guessing here too.
Have already done sfc /scannow twice, and no change. When I open Settings/Personalization it only shows themes.

I just took a look around on Win10. Go to C:\Users\Your Name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs and see if Admin tools is there
    Attachment 19917
Then it "should" be here(if it's not, I don't know why, but maybe someone else might):

    @Cliff S

I went to Administrative tools at the address shown in your pic, at:

AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/Windows/Start Menu/Programs/Administrative tools ... but the folder is empty.

So I've decided to do a clean install of v10074 because it seems my installation is corrupted.

    Thanks all for your help.

You're welcome. A clean install is a pain, I know if you want to put all your software back on, I know. I've started to only install what I need, or really want to test, lately(I always keep a copy of the latest installers handy, in case something ever becomes corrupted).

Sorry - the Start settings are new in 10.0.122.

You've probably already started or finished the install. I' wait until you post again and I'll try to be more careful about the versions.

Thanks Cliff S, you're right, a clean install is a pain, but I keep all my data and installers on external HDs, and blank copies of all my personal folders, etc. So not too bad.

The hardest part so far has been finding the new locations of various items. I had to Google it to find how to show all icons in the task bar Notification area. I didn't realize there was a dedicated menu item for it in Control Panel. I never had to use that in W8.1

It's hard to understand the rationale behind some of the changes. In previous versions of Windows, to show Computer and Control Panel on desktop you simply right clicked a blank space on desktop and chose personalization and there was an option for this in the top left of this window. Now it's hidden in the Settings app under themes.

I've already tested every plug in, 3rd party program/app, etc, etc ... even WinLiveMail, which IMHO is way ahead of Mail app in W10 in functionality. Also, as mentioned in a an earlier post, I've successfully used W8.1 drivers for printer, web cam, and mobo drivers where needed, and all good. However, it would not allow Avast anti-virus or Zone Alarm firewall to install.

So this time I'm keeping the installation simple, and using it to monitor changes as it evolves; and not use it as my flagship. It definitely seems to lack stability. Several times personal folders I've created have been moved on the desktop, become corrupted, or lost the icon individualization. It also corrupted files in my 2nd internal SATA3 SSD storage HD; and often wouldn't recognize USB3 external HDs. And when I clicked the "Safely remove Hardware and eject media", it often could not turn off the external hard ... whether it be USB or eSATA. So it's still quite buggy.

Thanks Slartybart, no worries re version difference. And yes, I have already done the a clean install with 10074, and it does have the missing Administrative folder in the start menu. So all good.

    Two questions:

    1. When the start button on bottom left of task bar is opened, on the right side, there is the Start menu with all the tile apps. What is the correct name of the vertical list on the left side which has all the apps/installed programs? It is similar to programs in W7 menu, only iconic?

    2. I'm registered for the insider program for W10. How do I get hold of v100122? From what I can gather I'd have to be on the fast list? How would I go about doing that?

Om Settings updates, I ticked the advanced option for quick updates, which has a warning that while you get new stuff faster, it is more prone to glitches. :)

It's safe to call the left hand list All apps

To change from the slow ring, go to Settings>Recovery & Updates, in the Windows Updates section, click on the text link Advanced options scroll down to the bottom - the dropdown box only has two options, fast and slow.
I think that's what you did. The release will be offered by Windows Update. If it hasn't already been offered, manually Check for Updates.

After you get the release you want (122 in this case), you can change it back to the slow ring if you want. I tend to wait a few days before changing to the FAST ring, only because 10074 was put up a week after 10061 and I 'wasted' some time testing a release that went nowhere. Other members are always on the FAST ring, their experience is invaluable to have before you decide to upgrade.

@Slartybart Thanks for that info. I had already ticked fast updates, but have not had the latest update offered to me.

Is there a link to a downloadable ISO image for this version?
