You don't need to do anything as the Computer already had Win10 so is registered with M$, infact if you see a button for activation that says Skip for now , or it may say "I don't have a Key " ...same thing click on it and Win10 will Auto activate when it is Fully installed.

but I should still download from ISO or other link? which is probably the best in this case (besides being 64 bit)?

Just be aware of a Refresh:
Using this tool will remove all apps that do not come standard with Windows, including other Microsoft apps such as Office. It will also remove most apps installed by your PC’s manufacturer such as your manufacturer’s apps, support apps, and drivers. You will not be able to recover removed apps and will need to manually reinstall them later if you want to keep them.

nah, I want to just know which is the best link, then download myself...... do you have a recommendation from the links on the upgrade page? and if I might not be able to use the CD, should I use the USB? but in the video, the guy seems to use the ISO from the desktop.. I just want to know if one of the links is best for my case.

I would just Download the Full ISO (Option 1) and then put it on USB or DVD , whichever works for you best.

Agreed. But with all the questions of what would be kept and what would be lost a few pages back, just wanted to be sure that's clear.

well certainly don't want to lose those that came with the system. I want to lose read only problems. I don't want turning off the antivirus to spread anything if anything remains, then whatever is quarantined to start functioning again. I will need to install an antivirus as soon as installing the in-place upgrade. does avast have a firewall, or only mcaffee? even mcaffee is temporary, while avast has the free edition that just needs me to enter my e-mail every year. btw, will the ISO work on an external hard drive?
