    Startup Folder

With Windows 8.1 under All Programs there is a folder called Startup.
If I want to start a program when I boot up, I drop and drag a shortcut to that folder.
If I want to stop the program from starting I remove the shortcut from this folder.
If I want to edit the file I click on the shortcut and go from there.

In Windows 10 the Startup folder is still there.
    However it is empty.

Funny thing all the files I had installed in that folder in Windows 8.1 are still starting on startup.

    Where are they?

If want edit, remove, or add to them.

To start with there's one I want to remove.

Try this: right click start, in the run box type shell:startup and then press enter. See if the programs that are starting up are there. If so, delete the one you want to remove. IF not there, it is probably in the registry.

    Also, look here: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp

The Startup folder is empty in 10, because it is going away. What you want to start up is now handled through the System Settings.

I went to System Settings but I don't see anything about Startup.

There are 2 startup folders in your PC:
    1. %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup ==> Specifically for each user in the PC.
    2. %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup ==> For all users in the PC

NOTE: Change Folder Options to show hidden folders

    Thank you topguncpd,

Could you please be more specific with the path %APPDATA% and %ALUSERPROFILE%.

    Such as C:\users\don\etc...\etc...\etc...

Those are 2 environment variables defined in Windows 10.
    %APPDATA% will expand to C:\Users\don\AppData\Roaming.
It is easier to use than using the whole path.
    Same for %ALLUSERSPROFILE% => C:\ProgramData
Just open file explorer, copy and paste what I had in post #5 to the address field then press ENTER.

This is the proper way with Windows 10 to add startup items. As I stated before, the Startup folder is going away. How to add or remove startup apps in Windows 10

    Startup Folder

C:\Users\don\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup ==> No Startup folder here (I don't care. I'm the only one using this computer.)

    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup ==> Has a shortcut to Bittorrent.exe here.
I suppose I could drag a new shortcut here.

AutoHotkey, Bittorrent & Storkeit are staring on boot.
Storkeit.exe is the one wanted to delete but I uninstalled it.
That took care of that problem.

AutoHotkey and Bitorrent, I want to keep then starting wherever they are stored. Maybe the Registry.

I was fixin to delete Storkeit from the Registry (There was a lot of them) when I got the idea to uninstall Storkeit.

So pretty much this is solved.:)

Did you set Folder Options to show hidden Files/Folders ?

In addition, Some programs will install item(s) in Startup using the registry. You can download:
WhatInStartup - Disable/delete programs at Windows startup
It's a single, portable program that will show you the location where they are installed for the startup as shown:
