    Total identified Windows installations: 0

    Hello,

Yesterday my system froze up and restarted itself (after a brief flash of a warning that I didn't get to read in time), giving me a BSOD every time I try to boot ever since, with the error codes 0xc000000f or 0xc000000e.

Also the message "The Boot Configuration Data for your PC is missing or contains errors".

    And "File: \Boot\BCD".

I looked up the error codes and found lots of videos and articles on how to fix it. I made a USB boot drive and opened the command prompt. I tried many commands.

I'm sorry I can't provide my Windows version number, since the PC in question won't boot.

bootrec /fixmbr gave the "completed successfully" response, but bootrec /fixboot gave "access denied".

bootrec /scanos returned "Total identified Windows installations: 0", as did bootrec /rebuildbcd.

I had no luck with the diskpart commands either.

I'd really appreciate it if anyone could help me out here. Happy to provide any more details if needed.

    Thank you.

If you have another computer, you could make a Macrium Reflect (free) bootable USB or CD and use that to fix the booting issues you are having.

Hey, thank you for your quick reply. I do have another computer, I'm using it now to post this. So that software will work better in my case than the default Windows bootable USB?

    Edit: typo.

I never use the Windows install media for things like this. There ARE plenty of posts and tutorials on TenForums that will allow you to do a reset, or repair or w/e. I like Macrium Reflect backup software's bootable media though.

When you make then boot from it, it has an option to "fix boot problems"... and it does just that. This ofc, assumes that you aren't having a hardware issue, like a bad SSD.

/edit Also, you should be running some backup software anyhow. Macrium Reflect 7 (free) is great backup software. It can even restore from a backup when (as in your case) Windows won't boot.

I really appreciate your help, thank you. I'm gonna try Macrium Reflect now. Cheers!

OK, so I ran into a bit of a problem. I made the Macrium Reflect boot USB. After booting to it on the PC with the problems, it asked to be directed to the drive with Windows installed. Did that, and then it wanted me to select the active partition, but it's telling me I have no active partition. What should I do here?

Without a pic, I have to just go from memory. I think you click Restore maybe... then on the left about half way down you should see: Fix Boot Problems. Click that and do w/e it says.

If that doesn't work... you may need to reset, repair or re-install Win 10.

Here are some pics showing what I'm talking about. Please excuse the phone camera, it's the only way I could get these images.

First, I click on Fix Windows boot problems:

Then it wants me to locate my installed OS:

When I hit "Add", for some reason Windows 8 is auto-filled in the display name.

I change the name to Windows 10, and the location path to C:\Windows. The software now sees my Samsung SSD.

Now it wants to be directed to the active partition, but there's nothing there to choose from.

I try hitting Next, as it's the only available option, and it gives me this:

I don't understand how it can see my installation of Windows 10, yet claims there is no active partition.

Open a command prompt from the Macrium Rescue Flash Drive and run:
    Code:
    diskpart
    Select volume=c
    Active
    Exit
    Bcdboot C:\Windows /s C: /f ALL
    Exit

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, I get this error message after the final command:

You probably have a corrupted Windows install.
