Win10 PasswordRequired doesn't work on new Guest LID
Using this post:
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4...dows-10-a.html
I created a Guest LID (logon ID) in APR (called it GuestX).
However, a few months ago, it demanded I enter a password. At that
time, as a temporary circumvention, I just used CP/User Accounts to
assign one, even tho I knew it wasn't what I wanted. I was working on
other problems.
But, last week, when I tried to logon to it, it said 'password
expired'??? I have never seen this in Win7.
I changed these 3 for my new GuestX LID w/wmic:
PasswordExpires
PasswordChangeable
PasswordRequired
to False, to match what Win7 has. Specifically, for this problem, the
last one, yet, I still can't logon to it w/o having to enter a
password?
In Win7, wmic shows this:
AccountType=512
Description=Built-in account for guest access to the computer/domain
Disabled=FALSE
Domain=aaa
FullName=
InstallDate=
LocalAccount=TRUE
Lockout=FALSE
Name=Guest
PasswordChangeable=FALSE
PasswordExpires=FALSE
PasswordRequired=FALSE
SID=bbb
SIDType=1
Status=OK
In Win10, it(they) show the same thing:
AccountType=512
Description=Built-in account for guest access to the computer/domain
Disabled=FALSE
Domain=ccc
FullName=
InstallDate=
LocalAccount=TRUE
Lockout=FALSE
Name=Guest
PasswordChangeable=FALSE
PasswordExpires=FALSE
PasswordRequired=FALSE
SID=ddd
SIDType=1
Status=OK
AccountType=512
Description=
Disabled=FALSE
Domain=eee
FullName=
InstallDate=
LocalAccount=TRUE
Lockout=FALSE
Name=GuestX
PasswordChangeable=FALSE
PasswordExpires=FALSE
PasswordRequired=FALSE
SID=fff
SIDType=1
Status=OK
so why must I enter a password? Even CP/User Accounts says it is
'Password Protected' in the icon area for it.
Is there something else I have to do to make this work like it does
in Win7?
I ended up deleting and re-creating it per that post, then changed
the 3 in the new LID manually (which I did NOT do the first time).
Now, it went back to operating like when I first did this (no
password required, just the 'sign in' button).
So, perhaps I did something wrong the first time, or, more than
likely, this will become problem#46 w/Win10 over Win7. I guess time
will tell.
Unfortunately, I had to re-do many settings (IE,Tbird,etc) as I
can't trust it doing it.
If anyone has a permanent resolution, I'd appreciate it. Thankx...
