    Wondering about Windows 10

(quote from a site I was browsing)
"Now all we need are some pointers on the cost for Windows 10 after the first year promotion."

If Microsoft is going to make Windows 10 a 'service' and we all jump of the cliff and into Windows 10. What are we agreeing to in the long run I wonder? Can we go back to Windows 8.1 or 7 after the first year?
If I read it correct a spokeperson for Microsoft made reference to Netflix as a similar service. We all know they charge a monthly fee for that service.
My mind is going crazy here now lol
My wife's laptop is running Windows 7 and working great and I am running Windows 8.1 and it is running smooth.

Anybody care to comment on this or if any have extra news along this line.

    cheers

If you search the forums you will find a few links to resources etc that explain it but the crux is that Windows 10 will be free and the updates to it free as well. I, like you, had concerns over a subscription fee but it dosnt seem to be going to happen.

Right now there is no credible evidence that Microsoft will ever go to a subscription based service for their Windows OS.

In addition there has been a tweet that indicates that this will not happen. Service does not mean fee for using Win10 it's the process that MS will use to keep the OS up to date with updates and security patches.

Bill Gates didn't make his billions giving away the store. You, and I know somewhere, someone is going to pay for the "costs" of creating Windows 10 and the costs of the upgrades and , etc. So, tell me where is Microsoft going to get their money that is "due" for what Bill Gates considers some extra billions in his stash drawer? I have a "sneaky" felling we all will pay a fee when it comes to Microsoft making the "necessary" upgrades that we must have for Win10 to continue to run.

Please stop spreading mis-information. All of the updates and upgrades will be free for Win10. That simple. The money that MS will get is from cost savings in developing one main OS(Win10) rather than having to develop up to 3.

If you have facts.. real facts and not blogs.. post links.

Bunny j, I have read numerous news articles on this very subject, written by very good authors that follow Microsoft Win10 and how it will all play out. Most, and I repeat most think there will be a fee somewhere, sometime in the future that Microsoft will make some sort payment situation to use Windows 10.
What will your words be when you will be slapped with a fee on Winds 10, say Dec, 2016? You want me to save your words above just in case you needed reminded?

I will not be hit with any fee in the future to use Win10.. unless I decide to purchase a licensed copy. MS has stated clearly that Win10 will be a free upgrade and that the updates will be free for the life of the device that the OS is on. How can that be so confusing??

Think what you will but claiming that some blogs know better than what MS has posted is just misleading.

And don't forget the cost savings by merging the OS into one build will add up to some big savings. There are so many ways that MS can and will make money at this point that giving away WIn10 will be a non issue.
