I have mixed feelings. There were problems with 7 that were never fixed, like Device Manager blinking on and off when viewing devices.

Windows 10 seems to run faster and smoother, but I still haven't solved the mailto browser links that don't work since the upgrade, even though I've tried everything.
If speed is your main criteria, than 8.1Pro is the fastest of them all, surpasses 10.

Don't mean to butt in BUT Macrium does a much better job of Cloning.....using their making a complete image, instead of using its cloning Option. I used to own and run Acronis for years, but it has become full of boated extras that you don't need.
I noticed that they have something running and taking up RAM all the time. You're probably right. Will try Macrium, thanks! :)

    And, thanks Kbird!

Wow, that's nice to know. And it will allow a few years for Microsoft to stabilize Windows 10.

I think you will find MORE than just one thing running under Acronis. Last time I had it installed there were 3 or 4 items running that I could find in Task Manager and it was there 2016 release. This could also slow your boot up speed too. Plus all the hard drive space it consumes. Windows 8 does not run faster than Windows 10, if setup correctly. But I'm sure opinions on this will be different. :) Lots of things can affect the speed of your OS. No matter which version you run. Take care. Mike.

More on this thread: Yesterday, it said there was another update and asked if I wanted to schedule it. So I figured, ok, I scheduled it for 5:30 this morning, thinking that at least it would be done by the time I got up.

So I get up at 9:15 and go to the PC. It's drawing about 90 watts on the UPS meter, which is typical of the PC being on, and the monitor off . So I push the power button to bring it out of sleep ( or power it on after the upgrade ). Same result as last time it upgraded. Nothing. Black screen. I hot escape, ctrl-alt-delete - NADA! Keep hitting the power button. Nada!

So AGAIN, I have to drop the power, by shutting off the UPS, and back on again, then starting it.

At least this time, it didnt tell me that the boot sector couldnt be found ( recall that I had to finally start it in safe mode after an hour of that! ). This time it booted. BUT instead of the upgrade being done, I got: "working on updates - dont turn off computer" for awhile. Then at least it started and ran ok.

I cant take this stress anymore. I'm running a home based business on this PC and apparently Microsoft is such a muscle bound giant that they're not capable of putting out a new OS without trashing everything for me.

So now I have to go out and buy a Windows 8.1 PC and try to get everything transferred and working on it, and if that's possible, then wait maybe 3-4 years for Microsoft to get their...act together with Windows 10.

Wonder why the public has a love-hate relationship with Microsoft?

The restart sounds normal , after the power down , not the blackscreen part , after a major update to a new version I get that too.

Any chance the UPS isn't acting correctly? or communicating with the Computer now it is on Win10 , next time you have a scheduled restart take it off the UPS and see what happens.

It is probably a good Idea to have a second PC or a laptop so you can continue your business , besides it is a write off in that case so why not get a good one ?

The UPS isn't connected with a data cable, so no. The PC just goes into la la land after updates. Wont turn on or off.

If I get a second PC, it will be 8.1 and I'll migrate to it and dump this OS.

If it's just an OS issue and you really hate it , just Reinstall Win8.1 on that one perhaps ......

    Windows 8

personally with my own business I would never be with only 1 Computer ....just incase... and your's sounds more critical than mine, so I hope every thing is backed up with images via Macrium Reflect etc too , to an external.
