Start menu after the anniversary update

    Hello

As mentioned I updated my windows 10 yesterday, it took a while but finally it went all good. However some things are bugging me crazy after the process.

The menu start before the update used to show only the tiles, now after the new version being brought the smooth look of tiles got disrupted with program list display

Is there any way to take it off back to how it was?

Also is there any way to make the icon on the left of the list bigger? I could swear the space used to be organized better before...

Please, any hints would be appreciated

Hi, as you will read in the many articles on the web about the upgrade, the start menu has changed. This is by design.
    E.g.
Start Menu: Whats new after Windows 10 Anniversary Update? - BT

However, your screenshot does not show a list of your installed programs - your start menu- in the left pane as it should and that's not correct.

The icons down the left represent Videos, Documents, Photos - folders. You can get rid of them in Settings. They are the same icons used in Cortana search for files and folders.

It is also probable that you have lost the tiles you had in the right pane- that happened to me. No idea why- just more settings MS reset I guess.

If you dislike the start menu- and I do- please try a 3rd party replacement menu. I use Classic Shell (free).

The list is there i just made it blank for privacy issues, the list is there, what I want to do is to get rid of it and just see the tile everytime, am I correct that it used to look different before the update?

I am not keen on installing third-party apps to customize it really :/

Sorry, you can't customise the start menu content apart from adding moving changing resizing tiles, changing the content of the programs listed - which is there so you can -er- (cough) - start them- and adding and removing buttons on the left side.

If unhappy, use a replacement start menu- these are far better. Mine allows me still to launch the (unchanged) Wn 10 start menu, or my Classic Shell - so I have a free choice.

    Adam,
I recommend you install Classic Shell. Configure it so mouse hover opens Classic Shell and left mouse click opens the Windows Satrt Menu. That way you have both options easily available :)
