Android is not LOCKED to store only. You can download APK files from anywhere, save it to the storage card and manually install it to Android device. Play Store is just another source. Android is an open source device. It's the easiest device to hack. It's not secured.

As with the Apple Store both Microsoft and Apple are basically shooting for this idea of yours. It is one that I too would like to see across all platforms. . .:). Oh by the way that is with regular apps and Win Store apps (for those who are about to state that they will never, ever, no matter what use a Win Store App. ..)
I will install programs and apps from the Store if they're something I need. However, I will not be locked into a single source for programs I use on my PC. It is my computer and I will not allow it to be controlled by anyone other than myself.

Although I'm solidly a Windows user, the quickest way to send me toward Linux is to tell me I can use only programs from the Store. That I won't tolerate.

Quick question. Malwares, viruses and other threats can be distributed via store or not? Is it so safe?
You probably won't get Malware, viruses or other threats from the Store; however, installing a program on your computer is probably one of the least likely sources of said problems. Just surfing the Internet and visiting the wrong site is more than likely to give you a dose of the afore mentioned problem stuff.

It would be a solution to me if I needed it!

Edit: Windows is already as safe and stable as anything else out there. BTW, "Speak for yourself, John!" This "we" ain't joinin' in!

Absolutely, since it seems you'd have to be a power user to turn it off! What this seems to me is an absolute dictatorship thing. I don't believe Microsoft would ever consent to being any more a dictator than they are already. :)

    As he says,

There is no way a regular user would have the knowledge to turn the blamed thing off; therefore, he/she would be a prisoner of his/her own computer.

because most of the billion plus windows users are not advanced users , and are harmed by the ability to install from anywhere (go look at a normal user PC , see the junkware , malware and adware that they never intended to install )
the fact that windows is locked to the store (and the fact that the store include win32 apps (full desktop apps) ) mean that windows can be as secure and stable as an ipad.

so this will benefits more than a billion windows normal users , and the advanced users if they didn't find an app at the store they can just go to the settings and enable installing apps from anywhere (just like Mac OS and Android) )

Agreed, Robot. I've downloaded and installed stuff to my RCA 'droid. If you know what you're doing, you can even upgrade your OS if the manufacturer is dragging its heels on updates.

While the Technical Preview/Beta of Office for Android (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) was going on, a large number hacked their 'droids to install KitKat, since Office for Android wouldn't install on JellyBean.

I'll hazard a guess that O for A will be in the Store when its finished and out of beta.

a prisoner to a clean store that all it'a app is reviewed and safe is a lot better than being fooled by adware and malware everyday and in the end having a slow PC that been hijacked by malware.
    it's 2 choices :-
1-having an OS where the normal user need to know too much to be able to protect his PC and maintain it (and being ideal for advanced uses)
2-having an OS where advanced users need to toggle something in the setting and get all they want (and being safe for normal users)

what is the more logical choice ?
