I am not so open to offering my opinion unless it is asked for. But sometimes I am unable to refrain. Case in point.

Aha! My daughter lives in Benton and owns the Pool League in Little Rock. Can't remember the exact name.

Hi Lady. . .I wouldn't go that way. . .if all goes right the MS Store will work just like the Apple store in the future. In the Apple store we OS X folks can buy just about any program/app made for our Macs or apple devices this includes MS office for the Mac, photoshop, illustrator, etc. Now with all of these programs on record as being purchased any tiime our systems go down we can bring them back up, and load all our purchaseed store programs/apps without any problems. The future is looking good just give it chance to get here. . .Mac user are there now it is Windows folks turn. . .:). . .Can't wait until MS gets it done, and hopefully done right. . .

I'm going to try and make this my last post on the subject. You are tired of always having to fix the computers of your family when they install bad or infected software. I agree with that because my family use to come to me all the time. What I don't agree with is that you want MS to be your babysitter at the expense of everyone else. I for one will continue to use Windows but I do not want or need MS to control how I use my computer. If Apple and Android are so much safer use them instead.

    Off topic post

I always liked pool but was never good at it. For some reason I couldn't hit the pool balls with the correct amount of force needed. I hardly ever got a pool ball in the pockets.

Tell me this, then, when I go to Best Buy, Fry's, Office Depot, etc. and see a program I want, shell out my money and it won't install because I'm restricted to the Store, what do I do then?

What happens to those distribution points for software? Lemme see now, Amazon.com comes to mind. There's Newegg and the ones mentioned above. I mean, if I cannot install boxed software, what next?

Corel, Nuance, Ashampoo, Professor Teaches, Nova Development (and many, many more) distribute their software through Amazon, Newegg, Office Depot, Walmart, Staples, Costco, Sam's Club, etc. So what happens when our computers are restricted to only installing software from the Store? Looks to me like a whole lot of retailers, distributors and developers will be SOL when it comes to sales of their product. Not only that, but their bottom line will be so badly dented as to drive many of them out of business.

How many developers do you think are out there? Usually, every developer has several programs and/or utilities. Look at the number of programs available on Tucows.com that will no longer be installable unless they're in the Microsoft Store. Quite frankly, I'm wondering if the Store could even handle the kind of volume that would be required! There are far, far more Windows programs and apps available than will ever be for the Apple stable.

What about my freedom of choice? Am I and nearly a billion people supposed to just roll over and play dead?

I'm sorry, but in my opinion, be it ever so not humble, everyone has the right to use their own equipment as they see fit! It is not an option to disenfranchise nearly a billion people in order to protect them from themselves.

Having said that, more power to Microsoft if they succeed in populating the Store with Win 32 apps and programs. That's a business move that may or may not succeed. It's fine as long as I am not restricted in any way as to where I get the apps and programs I use on my computer.

Let's put it another way . . . are you willing to settle for one brand of bread, one brand of soup, one brand of cheese, one brand of green beans? Would you be willing to settle for Walmart, Walgreens, HEB, Hewlett Packard, Dell, Office Depot, Staples, to be closed and only be allowed to use Kroger for groceries, CVS for pharmacy stuff, Lenovo for computers, etc.?

What about your cell phone? Maybe we should only have one source for our cell phones too. Dump 'em all on Amazon.com and don't allow anyone else to sell a working one . . . better yet, make 'em all Windows 8 phones.

Kinda stupid, dontcha think? I wrote it and I think it's really, really stupid. Which is why I will never agree to having all apps and programs only available from the Microsoft store. It's just flat out not a good idea.
