    Black Screen w/ Cursor After Login.


    Hi,

    I've got a serious issue. My newly built computer has been having issues since about day 3. First, let me list off relevant hardware and software.

    MoBo: ASUS Z170-A
    CPU: Intel 6600k i5
    GPU: MSI 1070 GTX
    RAM: 32GB DDR4
    128GB SSD
    1TB HDD
    1.5TB HDD
    650w PSU

    Relevant Software:
    Windows 10 Pro
    Webroot SecureAnywhere
    Paragon HFS+
    Macrium Reflect(with 2 jobs scheduled for startup)
    Steam / games
    Battle.net / games

    Basically, it started when I tried to install VirtualBox. On next startup, Black Screen w/ Cursor after login. Safe Mode, Windows Explorer just goes Not Responding. I restored from an image. A few days go by, I try virtualbox again, same thing. So I give up on VirtualBox. Next I am having an issue with my "Rear Speaker" port on MoBo. I figure maybe the RealTek Audio drivers need an update. I go and download ASUS update for them, install, and problem surfaces again. Restore. Now I create a new user account. I go to my main account and do a chipset update. computer freezes during installation, and Black Screen reoccurs.

    Here's the kicker. I login to my new 2nd account, and no problems. I successfully updated the Intel Chipset Driver from my second account.

    Any ideas whats wrong here? I'm considering a clean install of Windows. I just want to rule out any Hardware issues.

    One quick update, but also my with regular user that experiences the issue, also I could never open Windows Update or the Update Settings from the search results, but with my new user, no issue.

    First make sure you do not have Hyper V enabled. If it is, disable it. You can't run Hyper V and VBox/VMWare at the same time. Part 2 will tell you how to enable/disable it. (Hyper-V virtualization - Setup and Use in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums) If that does not work, try this

    firstly wait long enough so the mouse cursor to appear when you move the mouse.
    (blank screen with a white mouse cursor)

    Then press the space-bar and enter your login password or pin (yes your doing this blind)

    You should now be logged into windows
    if the desktop dose not appear after 30 seconds then press Win+P keys, down arrow keys twice, and enter to extend display.

    Hi,

    I should have mentioned that VirtualBox is no longer installed, since I restored from a ghost image, and also I have tried every variant of the Windows + P

    I just want to let everyone know that the issue is resolved, but the cause is still unknown. I simply deleted my User Account and created a new one. This new account has no issues, is capable of updating the drivers without freezing, etc.

    If anyone wants to provide additional theories, please go ahead, but at this point I am saying this is a Solved issue.

    Glad you have it fixed, good work. Sounds like a corrupted user account.
