Windows 10 start menu not working after update-- new getaround

    Hi there
For those of you who can't get the Windows Start menu in build 10074 to appear or work when you UPDATE from build 10061 it WILL work if you revert back first to build 10049 and then update.

Activate windows and re-boot -- now it will work. Ensure Windows is activated after the re-boot but activate BEFORE reboot.

(Another good reason for keeping loads of backup images).

You can also now hide system icons again as before too. Don't forget to clean up disk space by using Disk cleanup in properties in file manager -- you can get rid of Windows.old if you don't want to revert back again --in any case I think it's better to RESTORE a previous version from a backup image if you must restore windows.

    Cheers

All I had to do was restart explorer.exe and it started working.

    Agree.

I had installed 10061 as an upgrade over Win 8.1.1 and while the upgraded OS ran satisfactorily, once I'd rolled-back to the 8.1.1 setup again (to test the roll-back facility) it became quite fractious and delicate, although it was still 'working'.

So, rather than upgrade that setup to 10074 and risk even more problems, I brought a 'clean' Win 8.1.1 image over, and then upgraded. So far, everything seems to be working reasonably well, although I still hate the look of 10.
