I'm not sure what upgrade problem you are referring to.

As for the memory, yes, 4 GB is fine. You'll want to make sure you install the 64 bit version of Windows 10.

All good advice here, you cant go wrong.

I'm of the school of fresh clean installs.
That way no legacy drivers or OS files get left over going forward.
I have 3 older boxes, none of which liked the win 10 upgrade option.
I got BSOD and driver issues on all 3. Fresh installs took care
of all three. Of course the advice here was the best!

Always backup first no matter what path you choose.

Windows 10 has a different update regime to that of Windows 7. With Windows 7, a failed update could lead to a "pile-up" of failed updates. With Windows 10, updates come as "cumulative" updates which download and install only the required software needed to bring the OS up-to-date for its build version.

So it does not have the same update problem as 7 had.

Based on what you're saying ... which is: You're computer is screwed up, and all you really want is a working Windows 7 computer. Then I'd say, don't upgrade. Reinstall Windows 7 clean. Your computer will work like new.

Old computers are not designed for new operating systems. If you upgrade the OS, you're just asking for trouble.

If you're an uber techie, you might choose to upgrade because you'd relish the challenge. But from what you've written in these pages, you're not. So don't.

Windows 10 can wait until you buy your next computer.
