I will upgrade to W10 at least one of my machines. My favorite right now: Windows 8.1. I won't upgrade from day one, probably I will let about 3 months pass before upgrading.

It may be a good idea to wait till all of the bugs are ironed out.

You'll be waiting a very long time. No mater how much MS works on the OS there will always be bugs.

It has been great reading all your thoughts and comments. And thanks to all who have voted, it makes for interesting reading. Seems Vista and Eight are unloved.

The poll (which is open for two weeks from the start date) is quite revealing (hope you are you watching Microsoft :)). The option of clean installing is going to be important to many and in fact just a few moments ago I was reading over on Ten Forums of a W10 upgrade that had gone amiss after running all night.

Oh yeah. Soild connection is important as you are going to download an ISO/installer for online upgrade. I would actually suggest a wired connection instead of wireless.
The next time you check in at a hotel, use their wired internet for a minimum fee to upgrade your Win 8. :)

And seeing how important your computer is, you should definitely make image backups and create a bootable Macrium USB rescue media with WinPE. It's something that you can use to fix your PC even if it won't boot up due to windows OS problem.
I can send you an ISO for the macrium WinPE if you need one but it's easy to create.
Thanks. I have been using image backups for a long time. Right now I'm using Macrium v. 6 Server edition. I've used Macrium since 4.x also EaseUS ToDo Backup and Paragon Drive Backup. This Laptop has been a dog afa even running a Restore Point. I think I had one run in 5 minutes or less same as on a desktop. The rest have hung and after 20 minutes I gave up and held down the power button.

Just now I turned off Fast Booting hoping that fixes it. I have to try a Restore Point and see if runs normally. Not looking forward to it. :)

I'm not reluctant because I don't know how to fix my PC. I'm reluctant because I know what can go wrong with it. :)
For years I had 2 desktops on a router. If one machine got hosed I could always get on the other to download what I needed to fix it up. But with only one system it's not so easy to bail yourself out if disaster happens.

Yep, especially since there're a lot of folks still on Windows XP and MS has said no free upgrade for them. There will also be many folks whose systems will croak on them, if not sooner, then later. If they can't build their own, they'll need to buy a new one with an OEM copy of Windows 10.

I don't know how many large system builders are out there, but offhand I can think of HP, Toshiba, Lenovo, Dell. And then there're the small "mom and pop" companies . . .

Microsoft seems to be doing its best to do away with all hardware media and going to download only, but although I have tried to figure out a way they can do that, it just won't quite compute. The more I think about it, the more I believe there will just have to be some type of media to at least install Windows with.

There are just too many folks who still don't have a fast Internet service. Also, there are more and smaller laptops that will come without a DVD drive. Tablets don't have DVD drives, do they? Certainly mine don't, but then they're 'droids. So . . . I'm back at square one, wondering what the next computers will be like.
When I said system builders I wasn't referring to HP,Toshiba, etc. I was referring to people who buy the parts and build their own systems or want to change the motherboards. This includes the mom and pop shops. I'm sure MS is going to have a retail release for us to purchase.

If they offer a decent discount I plan on getting one or two copies.

One of my laptops will be running Windows 10 with clean install. My main Windows machine right now is running Windows 7, and I plan to keep that around for at least a while longer, and I will probably convert my Windows 7 VM on my Mac to Windows 10.
