The "perfect" install --- not so easy !

problems i have seen during installation:

    a. bios

    i have had to take out the hard drive, open up BIOS twice, and do nothing, just to get a proper set up going . totally mysterious differences came up during install, such as mouse pointer there / not there;

    b. to remove the installer or not

more mysteries here. sometimes, regardless of BIOS settings, the first re-start will go back to step one, and you have to remove the installer; or the computer thinks you just started. other times: it nicely asked first if i wanted to boot from the install disk, then it went to hard drive to complete.

    c. drivers being installed

this mystery starts after it announces "ready" or "get started" or whatever. the truth is, you should not even touch it for the next half hour! don't even think of adding your programs, drivers, data or restarting the thing! for example after a long, long time it will find your nvidia graphics. finally everything comes to a slow down, but much later than you know.

ps a restart after the slowdown will be required to kick in the nvidia drivers.

    d. to be online or not during install

i think the answer is yes but not completely sure about this one. then comes the question: wireless install, or ethernet? my experience says ethernet internet cable is far superior to a wireless install.

    e. did 10 find all your latest drivers?

apparently not. you will still be stuck with that task later... if you want to. but don't worry: you will live with what 10 puts in for you.

    f. mysterious freezes during 10 startup

apparently 10 has a freak connection to the hibernate functions. and the strange thing: this only happened on some computers.

there is more but i just wanted to say that.

A Perfect Clean Install: Very Easy

    1. About the BIOS setup:
    • If you know what you are doing: Do your preferred settings; either Legacy or UEFI as you like.
    • If you dont know what you are doing: Just load the optimized defaults.

    2. To run the installer:
    • No need to boot into the BIOS and set the DVD/USB drive as the first boot drive; that is a pre-historic process. Just use the one time boot menu key. The key is different for different motherboards/OEM manufacturers.
    • Press and hold the Boot Menu key during POST, it will list up all possible devices to boot from. Choose your device, hit enter to continue.
    • During the installation, if the computer restarts, it will not go to the bootable media directly at all.

    3. Drivers:
    • ** Before installation, make one think 100% sure that you have downloaded and saved the appropriate network driver/drivers. Install the downloaded driver manually after completing windows installation if it does not configure ethernet and/or WiFi automatically.
    • For laptops, get the drivers form OEM manufacturer's website only. Specially for the display driver. Never get it from any other source.
    • For all the drivers for retail motherboards or old laptops not having compatible windows 10 drivers listed with the OEM, just let windows update do the job. Device Driver Automatic Installation - Turn On or Off in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

    4. Installing windows update:
    • Windows updates are some must to install. Windows 10 installs a number of things during installation; and for that it needs a working internet connection. It installs the windows updates, the device drivers and some apps from store.
    • If you are having a slow internet connection, it may take a time on those installations. So if you want, you may disconnect the internet for the time being. In that case, make it sure that you are installing the network driver that you have previously downloaded and saved.
    • Generally those installations does not take a very long time. If you allow those to be installed alongwith windows, you may easily do it.

It can be more elaborated. This post is just an outline covering the points of the original post.

P.S. the point f of the original post is not related with windows installation; so keeping it away form my present discussion; but that is just a maintenance task ....
If the discussion carries on and the situation demands, that point will also be discussed.
