Windows 10 won't leave desktop items where I put them

I want some icons and Word documents on the right side of my desktop, yet Windows 10 keeps moving them and it's really frustrating. I want them where I want them. I was told to make one change in the registry, ( I can't remember now exactly what it was) , but that didn't solve the problem. How can I stop this from happening every day? Thank you.

Download a program 'Desktop OK' - it is very small program & works well with all versions of Windows -

DesktopOK 4.35 Save and restore the desktop icon positions.

I haven't changed anything. For example, I have a Word doc that I open, add text, and close it. I want it over on the right side of the desktop. Every time I close it, it's moved and placed among the majority of docs and icons on the left. It really makes me crazy.

This is one of many mysteries I cannot understand.
I never had the issue of desktop icons being moved, and I have many, many of them ( see my screenshot). They always stay where I placed them.
The only time they got moved around was when I changed screen resolution, or when I changed the taskbar width.

Atanasian, I will try it, but I was hoping that Windows 10 had it's own fix. I'd rather not install a lot of extra programs to fix Windows problems, but if that's my only option, I'll do it.

I have a question. Is this only for icons or will it also keep Word docs where I put them? Currently, it leaves my Outlook icon where I want it, it moves my Skype icon, and moves my Word docs. It also leaves one folder, but moves another folder. There's no sense in what it chooses to let stay on the right, and what it moves over to the left.

Right-click context menu on desktop. click on View and you will see a submenu allow you to set icon sizes, auto arrange icons, align items to grade etc. Most likely auto arrange icons is checked. just uncheck it respectively check what you want to have.

as a pro user you should understand that if you right-click the context menu of the desktop you will find a menu called "view"and there in a submenu that allows you a variety of icon related settings on the desktop i.e. order arrange.

the site softwareok.com is up and running for years without any deviations. Check your system/browser for redirect malware!

while you can certainly use the desktopOK app, it is really not needed because you have the icon sort and auto arrange/align function available by right clicking on the context menu on the desktop and select view.
