Narrow columns to less than 80 pixels in File Explorer?

Hi Brink - since you know more about File Explorer that anyone (that I have come across anyway) - have you worked out yet how to manage column width. In the past (maybe XP) we could drag the columns to any width - but for the last n years we have been limited to 80 pixels. Since I want to fit two FE Windows on a 12 inch screen, I need to narrow some columns (eg, size, date and type) to less than 80. Don't suppose you have worked out a solution?

    Hello Jon, :)

It appears the pixel limit is limited based on part from what you have your screen resolution and DPI set to. You might see if adjusting them may allow you to squeeze the columns a bit more.

You are right. If I change the resolution in Settings, System, Display to 125% the minimum column width increases to 100 pixels (from 80 pixels at 100%). 125% is the best size for me in terms of readability, and I would like to reduce the width to around 60 pixels (on the basis that I don't really need to see "KB" or "MB". It is obvious which it is from the number of digits. Maybe as an MVP you can pass this issue on to Microsoft. I have logged it in Windows Feedback

Will do. It would help if everyone would also send feedback as well. :)

Just seen this old thread. I was hoping to discover my inability to reduce the column widths below 80 px was either down to some setting I don't know about, or fixable with some clever hack, e.g, in the registry.

I often want far less than 80 px. I was able to reduce it to just the first letter or less for several decades, including the last 15 years in XP. In a folder I might have JPG, PNG, GIF, and BMP, with maybe the occasional TIF. All obvious with their first letter.

Is there some advantage I've missed? Looks a daft design change to me.
