after win 10 upgrade, hp mini 311 boots only with add -on RAM removed

I have a HP mini 311 1002TU with 1+1GB RAMs, it works fine, but after WIN 10 upgrade, it wont boot unless the IGB add on RAM is removed, leaving only the built-in 1GB. What could be wrong? The RAM is fine , tested in other laptop. Do I have to update my BIOS which is F02 8/4/2009. The mini now is also extremely slow and will not multi task. Thanks

Which version of Windows did the mini come with? Did the added RAM come from HP? Does the BIOS recognize the added RAM? Have you checked with HP to see if they have an updated BIOS for it?

That may be true but the RAM module still could be not exactly right for the mini. According to http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/HP-Compaq/hp-mini-311-1002tu that model has only 1 RAM slot.
    Attachment 80651

    Sorry, link doesn't work properly.

Looking more at things and knowing that there is no 3GB RAM module suggests that there is 1GB soldered onto the motherboard and a 1GB or 2GB module can be added.

    TQ Berton.
The mini came with genuine Win 8. The added RAM also came with the laptop and carries a hp sticker "replace with hp spare 580016 001" . the mini works well b4 UPDATE to Win 10. Have visited HP Mini 311 site, no new Bios is listed, only driver, and asked to visit MS site. With Win 10 , my drivers are all auto updated . Indeed i m now running on the built in 1 GB, having to remove the add on 1 GB module from the slot, otherwise the mini wont boot at all.

I have an HP Mini 311, latest BIOS is F.16 Rev. F according to HP website, also it never came with Win8, it was XP or 7 at the time. I put a 2G stick on mine and it runs fine with 3G. (It is also overclocked to 2.0GHz).

Mind you it is somewhat slow in Win10, but everything is working.

Thanks Magister. indeed the Mini came with Win 7; since there is no solution, I have rolled back to Win 7, and the Mini is now working alright, the multi tasking is back as well

Look like you have hacked your Mini with an un-offical Bios and overclocked it, good luck. The slow speed and having to use only the ori RAM is just not worth the Win10 upgrade
