    toggle screen on/off

    Hi,

    I am using a Dell inspiron 15 5555.

Is there any way I can flip my screen on/off with a single key? I don't wont to "sleep" the laptop, just Hide my screen info (and Show again). Like when someone is looking over my shoulder or something... Any ideas???

    Thanks

Do you have a Fn key combination? Your laptop may have this built in. Ok, that's 2 keys.

Failing that you can assign a shortcut and hence a hotkey to the shortcut to nircmd (freeware) - just search for it- which amongst its many functions has screen off (or similar).

You could also use virtual desktops, but I seem to recall it's a 3 key combination to switch desktops.

I second that last suggestion. just hit Ctrl+Win+ right arrow key. You would have to press at least two keys anyway for shortcut.
Or why not just Win+D key?

Yeh, the Win+D works fine. Still I would prefer a single key if pos, maybe the second option needs looking into..
    anyway thanks...

By creating your own shortcut as I suggested you can do that..

I used to use this on my old laptop. When you create a shortcut, you can assign it a hotkey.

Your PC does not appear to have a built-in key combo to do this:

    Hello Bill, :)

This should work in Windows 10 as well.

    Hi Brink,

Thanks for your suggestions, however I'm not sure that adding to the "Desktop Context Menu " is the solution I'm after. I mean, if I need to first open a menu and then choose an option, then I might as well just close whatever window I'm in.

My ideal would be a simple "one push" option. to hide/show the screen (regardless of content).

If you like, you could just create a .bat file to run the same command used in the .reg file instead. This way you could keep the .bat file on your desktop to run as you like.

You would still need to do at least steps 2a-2d for NirCmd though.
