I had the same thing happen and I solved it the same way. I work in IT and my company has 3000 pc's and and what's happening is profile are becoming corrupt. We had this happen frequently with out XP machines. Your profile is made up of files on a drive and files do get corrupted.
But when you are on a Domain, you have a saved profile in case their profile on their machine gets screwed up. The only thing is that no one uses a real roaming profile anymore. Majority in IT use a standard machine profile and just update the GPO. Worse thing is that at a couple of jobs that I worked at, you had to have your PC moved with you when you moved. If you changed units, you lost your profile and stored files for that Tree, so IT had to do twice the work to set you up again.

I stopped counting the number of man hours I lost when you could spend up to a week, week and a half waiting for a new profile to be done.

So I took the plunge and re-installed Win10 from scratch. This time I did a custom install, on a local account only.

Late last night and this morning (SAT), the following updates failed, yet Windows said there are no updates available.

    (1) Microsoft.Net Native Run time Package
    (2) Microsoft.Messaging
    (3) One instance of svchost.exe, stopping.

Is this because these are all "Store" Apps, which require an active MS Account?

    Best

Yes if you do not have a Live Account signed in, it will fail. I just set mine to not update from the store. I never use Tiles, so there is no need for me to waste bandwidth on that machine when I am using it for testing CPU intense programs.

Thanks , I have done the same. Only run updates on the store under direct control and then sign on with my MS account as per the tutorial provided by Shawn. Next step is to eliminate all the Apps I do not want, again ........ sigh.

I deferred the threshold updates on mine, after the mess last week. Also set to warn me when it tries to update.

I received a feedback request form MS yesterday, presumably because of the new install I did. It asked me if I would recommend anyone to install WIN 10 .....

I gave a decided NO and said that until they do something to fix the issues we experience we are having.
