    Now there's an odd thing. I do too..for txt, rtf.. etc.. and I'd not noticed. And no idea what might have caused it...

    This appears to be one way to create that - perhaps we need the reverse...

    These are the only registry entries containing Run as

    I apologize if the topic is old, yesterday I had the same problem and in the google search I got this discussion.
    Fix the problem by deleting this entry.

    Thanks, however there is a possible consequence- it may not then possible to run e.g. ahk, bat, msi files as admin.

    If memory serves me, it was never possible to run programs in msi as administrator. They can be run via a registry entry. Looking there are many tutorials.

    The bat files by work normally.

    Sure, by default there's no 'Run as admin' context option for msi- rather the point of the thread- but it's not that msi files can't be run with admin rights as you point out.
