Give me a break. Are you telling me that there are people that would rather pay $672 over the years than $129 one time. A bank loan would be a lot cheaper.

I have Home and Student for 3 PCs. I also have the 2010 version for 3 PCs and that cost the same.
Sure. I use 2010 but I'd love to pay $7 a month to get a nice new gray skin. Really - it is worth it. Of couse the fact I can allow 5 other people to use it too isn't interesting to me.

It is a shame Outlook 2013 doesn't work very well at the moment though or I'd be all over it. Good deal - just wake me up when it works

That's exactly what I'm saying, i don't use Office 365 myself but maybe you should ask 1 of the millions of users that have signed up to the subscription model, maybe they like the idea of having the latest and greatest version on all their devices along with the storage and skype without trying to find money upfront.

I simply made the point that some may not be able pay that amount upfront but can afford the monthly cost.

Whatever the reason may be, it clearly works for some.

I use office 2013 and haven't had any issues at all, is there a specific issue you face?

Yes. Putting all my mails in my combined inbox without having to click around to make sure would be nice.

The 2016 (OK not 2013) preview I tried just didn't alert me. I had to manually check.

    2010 combined inbox works perfectly.

Ah ok, that's something i don't use, Outlook at work yes but not at home.
How Outlook works on a domain wouldn't be a fair test.

A little testy are we :/
The whole subscription thing is good for blood circulation :)
But most likely limited to apps
Win-10 will most likely be sold after a year how much is the ultimate question 0.00-???.??
I'm testy..Beam me up. It gets frustrating repeating over and over and over again that the Subscription is for OFFICE 365 ONLY and it is monthly or yearly depending on how you want to give your money to Redmond. I marked this as solved and I thought that would close this thread. I was wrong, I have never even seen OFFICE 365 and I do not nor do I want to know anything about it. Office 2010 works just fine for me. If MS make it not usable that would be fine as since I will be 67 in August I really do not have a need for any Office program. I use Outlook 2010 but Thunderbird would work just fine. Carry on.

Yes, clearly, you were. Perhaps though you (accidentally) opened a thread that people like to discuss?

I do anyway so thanks :)

Glad that you like it but I was not being testy. Some users would not understand sarcasm if it hit them in the head. I was a huge House MD fan so maybe that explains it. I did not open by accident though. But I was being sarcastic when I said in the OP 'Renting an OS":)

I'm sorry but you sounded a bit serious rather than sarcastic. And yes.. I for one can spot sarcasm.

OK, you like renting houses and think therefore renting an OS is normal. I get it. You probably have your phone on contract and lease your car.

I'd like to try to explain compound interest to you but it would probably be a bit tricky.

The bottom line is that subscription models are ALWAYS more expensive in the long run than outright purchase. When I was a system manager for a major large system operating system, we priced our products such that a 3 year lease was equivalent to an outright purchase. That is OK for people who change their systems all the time. But if you want to keep a product for 5, 6 or 7 years, it is more expensive.
