Start menu tiles reverted to the browser icon

A couple weeks ago my Windows 10 had a big update. When the computer restarted, my START menu icons (maybe they are called tiles) reverted to to the browser icon. This happened to most tiles in my START menu, which opened a website.
See the screen shot below. All of these Chrome icons, previously, were the icon of the website (eg. Facebook). I have worked with microsoft with no success. Backed out all updates and problem seems permanent.

    Any ideas?

Hi have you tried these from Brinks Tutorials

Remember to run it in Command Prompt (Admin)
    It will take some time
SFC Command - Run in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

Or this is most likely the one you need
Icon Cache - Rebuild in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

If neither of the above ones work you may need to do this one
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade - Windows 10 Forums

Let us know how you get on
Also have you got Chrome installed at all as it might be corrupted

    Hello @profguy, welcome to tenforums.com! :)

Chrome uses specific 'Visual Elements' to represent it's links throughout your system, and, for fairly good reason: so you are aware of which browser is opening which link, for example.

However, if you wish to show the site icon and your system accent color on tiles, you could do the following but, create a restore point before doing so, just to be safe:

Navigate to the location highlighted in red on the navigation bar, delete the chrome.VisualElementsManifest.xml file and the VisualElements folder inside the version folder:

then your tiles should retain the site icons and your system accent color:

(You can create individual icons manually but, this is much easier and faster!)

This works GREAT! You were able to easily do what the Microsoft techs could not.

But, I am curious. Instead of deleting the files, you suggest I can create my own icons. Could you elaborate? I might prefer that method.
