    Start screen issues

    Greetings.

I am experiencing a series of issues regarding my system.

    1. I cannot customize the start screen. Cannot drag and drop tiles, cannot pin-to-start, cannot change color. Nothing.

I have searched everywhere here and tried the solutions below:

    a. Reregistered windows store using powershell.
    b. Tried pining the apps from the all apps menu. No option.
    c. Checked the group policy pertaining to the start screen. No joy.
    d. Scanned.

Thought the culprit, would be the cause that shows the "Some settings are managed by your organisation" message in windows updates.

My user (only one accesses this computer) has admin priviledges (i think).

However, a few months ago in order to access work emails using the windows 10 mail client i agreed to my company's policy before accessing the exchange server. Now however i am not employed there anymore and have deleted the account. I state that because it migth be relevant to the issue i am facing.

I am at your disposal for anything you might require of me, in order for you to help.

    Thank you in advance.

My Windows version is 10 Pro, upgraded from Windows 8.1. However...after the installation i had no such issues.

Hi, Someone noted here that temporarily enabling Tablet Mode may fix this.
    (apologies, attribution lost)

    1. Open the Action Centre
Turn on Tablet Mode (should all now go full screen)
    Try moving the tiles ..
Open the Action Centre and turn off Tablet Mode
Screen should be back to normal - try the tiles again.

    2. Set full screen, then revert to normal
    3. Change user account to admin from user and back again if appropriate
    4. Try creating a new user account
(if it works in a new user account, your user profile is corrupt, if not, Windows or a setting other than in your profile is corrupt).

You will be able to find more by using the search box above:
    start menu tiles stuck
    tiles don't move

    etc.

Some settings are managed by your organisation
This can easily be caused by either the user changing e.g. Privacy settings, or by using a free app intended to reduce MS so-called 'spying' or data collection - telemetry.

One way that may remove this is to download and install Spybot Antibeacon (free).
If you see green bars when you run it, click 'undo'.

It seems then to run by itself and 'Immunize' automatically- to prevent that, untick all the check boxes.

    Welcome aboard, Dzoulias.

Try Dalzina's solution first. If it doesn't work, I have two other suggestions:

    1) You posted "Thought the culprit, would be the cause that shows the "Some settings are managed by your organisation" message in windows updates." If this computer is on a company-controlled network, the settings might be unchangeable.

    2) You might be having a language problem. My home network includes my desktop and three laptops. As a retired American living in Mexico, I have a blend of both languages, which sometimes fouls things up. Are you using a blend of Greek and English?

I have 2 monitors, so tablet mode was greyed out. Changed to 1 monitor, enabled tablet mode, no joy after disabling again.

The computer was never on a company network. I just accesed my work email through the windows email client by configuring with the company's exchange settings. Had no direct contact with the mail server. The carrier was the internet. Not even a VPN.

Will try the new user and post here the results. Assuming it is the user profile that is corrupted, how would i go repairing my current one? Because my current one is the one with the authenticated microsoft account for Windows 10.

I created a 2nd account, but cannot log in with it (!!!). I log off with the primary one, click on the 2nd one, it log on...and then off...by itself!!!

Yes, i have 2 languages for typing. Greek/English. Had them when there was no problem however.

Hi, That you can't create a working second account suggests sthg more significant is astray.

Start with sthg routine and straightforward:
Open an elevated (admin) command prompt.
(Windows key + X, click Command Prompt (admin) )
    Type
    chkdsk C: /F
Your system will restart - this will take some time.
Post back the result, which will be on the screen briefly.
Otherwise you can get the result as follows:
How do I see the results of a CHKDSK that ran on boot? - Ask Leo!

    Comment only:
Cortana and searching Settings are particularly sensitive to a misalignment of language settings. But that's not your main problem.

"Some settings are managed..." is a MS obfuscation meaning (approx) 'Something's changed in group policy settings which is affecting some function' - and may or may not have a noticeable affect on some operational aspect you need.

(Group policies are applied by organisations to a network, but these settings exist in all PCs; Win 10 Pro has the Group Policy Editor, Home does not).

Greetings. Will do as you said.

I will post results on Sunday night my time (GMT+2) since i will be travelling. When i return, on Sunday i will post the results.

One more thing. Created another user, admin priviledges, and this one experiences the same issues as well.

My main issue however is that i cannot do ANYTHING on the start screen. I just THINK that the perhaps it is the group policy that affects all these. Anyway...we will get to the bottom of this!

Food for thought i guess! Thank you for your time, and as i said, i will post here the results and we continue...

    Thx.

Once you've done the chkdsk, you can try what I suggested in #2 about removing 'Some settings' but I don't think that will help somehow, so the next stage will be to try an in-place upgrade repair install, for which you will need a compatible win 10 boot medium or iso (freely downloadable).

Let me know results first- chkdsk should be run before that just in case.
