Boy, oh Boy, that darn Microsoft sure is run by a bunch of dumb a**es isn't it. They just don't get it. All of us really smart computer folks out here in the world of computers are trying to help them get their you know what together, and they just can't seem to understand that we know better then they do on how a computer OS should be built. Darn . . .. . .Standing by. . .:)

Exactly and yet they claim they are listening to user feedback.

I did not like the old start menu and I do not like the new one either. This is the start menu I really like.

One thing that still works GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} for the ones that don't like the new setting menu and the castrated control panel.

It's much easier to customise too.

The "All" column isn't any better than W10's "All Apps" column though.

I'd read somewhere that "God Mode" still works.

I'm in favour of simplifying SENSIBLE stuff but hardware drivers - specially in these days where "Badged" items could be made from a whole variety of different factories and places the user should be able to decide if that update should be installed --like previously under "Optional updates". A generic driver say like REALTEK will work differently depending on the chipset used to make it so Ms needs to be careful here.

    Cheers

    Absolutely, Jimbo! Absolutely!

My Realtek audio on the laptop went bonkers with 10041 and I had to go to HP to get the "single" driver I needed. I told HP I was using 8.1, downloaded (rather than download and install), and then installed the driver. It worked just fine.

As you point out, there are just too many hardware versions out here, both built-in onboard as well as plug-ins for Microsoft to be so arbitrary about downloading and installing new drivers. It's just plain crazy!

Do not! I say, Do Not arbitrarily install new hardware drivers on MY SYSTEM! I am the one who knows what's inside this computer!

IE has never worked properly since Day One. All the bugs in Win 8's IE are still present, and MS has even managed to add a few more. Google search breaks at least 50% of the time, and lock-ups are common. Understandable there are no bug-fixes since they're apparently killing it off anyway, but why break it further? And there's nothing about its replacement that appeals to me personally, from what I've seen. I happen to like IE and am perfectly satisfied with it. I don't buy the anti-IE hype that seemingly floods the internet.
I still cannot get IE or any browser to work properly in Windows 10. In fact, it's even worse now, I can usually only open a couple or three sites and then the browser stops working and I have to shut down and reboot to keep the Internet working. As a test, I booted to Windows 8.1 yesterday and kept it open all day. Well, never a glitch with Windows 8.1. Soooooooo, it's my opinion that it's Windows 10 Build 10041. Whatever the problem may be, it's a pain in the butt!

**The new 'Settings' panel is superfluous, non-intuitive, and ugly. What's wrong with Control Panel? It's worked just fine since at least Windows 3. All settings and options should be there, not scattered about all over the system.
If I could get everything to work in the new All Settings, I wouldn't mind, but I cannot get everything to work. It is getting there, albeit very slowly.

**It's bland, with nowhere near enough eye-candy. I can't recall ever seeing an OS that's been hit so hard with the ugly-stick, or so unnecessarily. Put the full Aero experience back as an option for those who want it, or at least make it easy for 3rd-party programs to do so. At the very least, replace the overall 'look' of 10 with that of 8.1
Bland I can take or leave. Mine are production machines and the less glitz the less problems finding what I need or want.

**When I search, unless it is in a browser, it means I want to search my computer, NOT the entire known universe.
In a word, YESYESYESYESYES! I hate that I have virtually no choice in what or how Search works!

No, the killer for me is this idiotic idea of forced updates.
Absolutely! There are far too many versions of motherboards, audio (built in and installable hardware), video (built in and installable hardware), etc., etc., etc. for a "one size fits all" hardware driver update to have any position in my OS!

    Wenda;212659** said:
I'll still be installing 10 in a VM (which I can isolate from the 'net thus avoiding these unwanted updates), just to play about with, and will be following future developments with interest but . . .
Just as a FYI, you can use a Local account, rather than a Microsoft account. I'm not sure, but I think, you can choose when to go onto the Internet and update hardware drivers with a local account.

Of course, these are only my views and opinions, your mileage may vary. But I'm definitely getting a sense of just how many Windows 7 users must have felt and still feel when confronted with Windows 8.
Some of the things you pointed out don't make any difference to me and some I feel strongly enough about to throw in my two cents worth also. I know there are those who think we're off our gourds because we want what we want, but I simply am not going to bow to their opinions no more than they will bow to mine. :)
